PROJECT CONNECT PROJECT CONNECT PROJECT CONNECT The Truth About Angels by Donald L. Deffner I grew up during the Great Depression in the early 1930s. My father was a minister. Behind our small home was a dirt alley which led nine blocks to downtown Wichita, Kansas. I can remember when I was a boy the hungry, destitute men who came to the back door begging for food. My mother never turned them down. She shared what little we had, even if only a couple of pieces of bread and a glass of milk. My mother didn’t just say, “Depart in peace! I’ll pray for you! Keep warm and well fed!” (See James 2:16.) No. She acted. She gave. Often I was curious about these mysterious and somewhat scary men. I had a sense that they were “different” than I was, not worse, not better, just different. I always watched these strangers heading back up the alley toward downtown, and sometimes, in a cops-and-robbers fashion, I secretly followed them, jumping behind bushes so I wouldn’t be seen. I think I half expected them to suddenly disappear. After all, my Sunday school teacher, encouraging us to be kind and care for strangers, told us the Bible says that, by doing so, many people have entertained angels without knowing it (see Hebrews 13:2). I never saw any of the men disappear. They were ordinary, hungry human beings. But my Sunday school teacher was right. God does send His angels to us, and they do interact with us—not just to test us and see if we are kind, but to protect us and guide us. -

Although the Bible doesn’t describe in detail the hierarchy within the angelic realm, enough evidence exists to show that some organization exists Classification 1. Archangel – the highest ranking angel Michael is the only angel designated archangel and may possibly be the only one of this rank His name means “who is like God?” Apparently, Michael is one of the chief princes (see #2 below) As the chief angel of God, he especially watches over Israel (Daniel 10:13, 21; 12:1) and leads the holy angels (Revelation 12:7) Jude 9~ But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil 1 Thessalonians 4:16 ~ For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 2. Chief Princes Daniel 10:13 ~ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 3. Cherubim Cherubim are the highest group/order of angels, created with great powers and beauty Their main purpose is to proclaim and protect God’s glorious presence and sovereignty Genesis 3:24 ~ east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim Exodus 25:22 ~ There I will meet with you; and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, I will speak to you about all that I will give you in commandment for the sons of Israel. -
If Angels Do Not Have a Gender Then How Come They Have Boys Names?
If angels do not have a gender then how come they have boys names? It is true that we believe that angels do not have gender. Angels unlike human beings are pure spirit. This is why when people say that a human being has become an angel in heaven that is incorrect. Any human being in heaven is a saint. It is true that human beings until the resurrection of the dead while in heaven only contain their spiritual nature. But when Christ comes again, and the resurrection of the dead occurs at that moment human beings will become complete joining the physical and spiritual together in heaven. Hence, angels and human beings are not simply a different species they are different order of creation. As such angels can never become human and humans can never become angels. But when angels have been revealed to human beings, they taken on the appearance of somewhat human form. They did this in order for human beings to be able to comprehend the message that is being given to them from God. The word angel means messenger. And each angel has a specific function to perform based on their rank. There are nine ranks of angels: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Archangels and Angels. Seraphim are caretakers to the throne of God and lead the worship of God in heaven. Cherubim guard the tree of life and the throne of God. Thrones are living symbols of God’s justice and authority and listening to the will of God present the prayers of human beings to Him. -

Christian Angelology Angelology Introduction Why study Angels? They teach us about God As part of God’s creation, to study them is to study why God created the way he did. In looking at angels we can see God’s designs for his creation, which tells us something about God himself. They teach us about ourselves We share many similar qualities to the angels. We also have several differences due to them being spiritual beings. In looking at these similarities and differences we can learn more about the ways God created humanity. In looking at angels we can avoid “angelic fallacies” which attempt to turn men into angels. They are fascinating! Humans tend to be drawn to the supernatural. Spiritual beings such as angels hit something inside of us that desires to “return to Eden” in the sense of wanting to reconnect ourselves to the spiritual world. What people believe or disbelieve about God and the world affects all aspects of their being, including their day-to-day behaviour. The animal protection movement is about changing and shaping people’s belief systems about animals. Religion can affect attitudes towards animals, and the way in which animals are treated, either positively or negatively. Religion can be important to the animal protection movement in different ways: - Firstly, it can be used in support of the animal protection cause. This can be particularly useful and powerful in countries where religion is important and influential. Secondly, religion is sometimes used to justify cruel treatment – and even sacrifices – of animals. Some animal protectionists fight against these cruelties carried out in the name of religion. Positive Attitudes Towards Animal All major religions of the world praise creation and acknowledge that humankind depends on nature for its own survival. They also teach compassion and love of all living creatures. Nearly all religions recognise the inherent value of animal life and the need to avoid animal suffering. Positive attitudes are probably generated from two main factors: - Firstly, because such attitudes are included in the religious texts and scriptures. Secondly, because caring and compassionate people who have become revered as religious leaders have consistently recognised that a loving and compassionate God would care about beings who desire to live and are able to experience pleasure and pain. -

THE IDENTITY OF THE 24 ELDERS IN REVELATION 4:4 Keith R. Krell The elders are a prominent group mentioned 12 times in Rev 4-19 (4:4, 10; 5:5, 6, 8, 11, 14; 7:11, 13; 11:16; 14:3; 19:4). Yet, the identity of these elders is disputed. However, the commentary tradition has by and large narrowed it down to two dominant views. The elders either represent church-age saints or some form of angelic beings. The following thoughts reflect my internal wrestling. It is also my attempt to fairly represent both positions and defend both views as well as possible. Not all of these arguments are equally strong, nor do I agree with each line of defense. My goal is to assist the reader to decide which view is the best. THE ELDERS REPRESENT CHURCH-AGE SAINTS 1. The elders are sitting on thrones before God (Rev 2:26-27; 3:21; 20:6; cf. Eph 2:6). While Christ is not seated on His earthly throne, these kingly ones, having been presented “blameless with great joy,” must be with Him (Jude 24-25). 2. The elders are clothed in white robes. Church-age overcomers are promised white garments (Rev 3:4-5, 18; 6:11; 19:7-8). Moreover, in Revelation, only the saints wear white clothing. This is appropriate, for the church, at this time, would have been judged and rewarded at the Judgment Seat of Christ (1 Cor 3:10-15; 2 Cor 5:10). 3. The elders have crowns of gold on their heads. -

The Destroying Angel
THE DESTROYING ANGEL SHAUL BAR The particular term "destroying angel" ( malakh ha-mashhit ) occurs twice in the Bible, in II Samuel 24:16 and its parallel, I Chronicles 21:15. Other allu- sions to this "destroyer" (mashhit ), can be found in Exodus 12:23 and Isaiah 54:16. The story of Sennacherib's siege of Jerusalem may also allude to a destroying angel (II Kgs. 19:35; Isa. 37:36; II Chron. 32:21), although the term used there is simply malakh . In the cultures of the ancient Near East, gods were believed to be responsible for death and destruction. The Bible, however, does not portray such a configuration. Instead, the destructive agents act according to God's instruction: they are His messengers and it is the Lord who initiates death and destruction. We will see that the Bible refers to the angelic forces of destruction in a way that negates the ideas of neigh- boring cultures. DAVID AND THE DESTROYING ANGEL The destroying angel is sent to afflict Israel with pestilence, in punishment for David's census (II Sam. 24:16). According to the account in the Book of Samuel, the destructive angel was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite (ibid.). The parallel account in Chronicles provides a more extensive description of what happened. David looks up and sees the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand directed against Jerusalem (I Chron. 21:16). This description of the angel draws on earlier biblical literature, the story of Joshua before the conquest of Jericho (Josh.
