  • Failing to Distinguish Between a Tractor Trailer and the Bright White
New York City, 1925. An empty touring car stands against the curb on Broadway. A man steps onto the running board and raises a hand. Without further intervention, the car starts its engine, shifts into gear, and lurches away from the sidewalk into thick traffic. It heads down Broadway, followed by police motorcycles, 01/07 meandering uncertainly from side to side, narrowly missing a milk wagon, and then a fire engine. ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊSomewhere on Fifth Avenue, the car makes a wild swing, and the man on the running board lunges for the steering wheel. He’s too late, and they plough into another car. This one is full of photographers and movie men desperately trying James Bridle to capture an image of the driverless vehicle. “The invention of the ship,” as Paul Virilio wrote, “was also the invention of the shipwreck.” Failing to ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊThe car was called the American Wonder, and it was the invention of the man on the Distinguish running board: an ex-Army engineer called Francis P. Houdina. The appearance of autonomy between a was produced by radio waves, broadcast from a car behind. In July of the same year, the illusionist Harry Houdini broke into the offices of Tractor Trailer Houdina Radio Control and smashed the furniture, accusing the company of using his and the Bright name unlawfully and stealing his mail. ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊFrancis Houdina protested in turn that use y of the magician’s name would imply that his White Sky k S invention was a trick, rather than a genuine, e t i working machine, but the network of h W associations is present from the very beginning: t h g i the car, the illusion, the image, and the crash.

CHEVROLET U.S. AND CANADIAN PRODUCTION FIGURES 1912 to 1931 May 17 2002 By KEN KAUFMANN, MONROVIA, CALIFORNIA [email protected] DAVID HAYWARD, SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND [email protected] PART I The Chevrolet Motor Company incorporation papers were signed on November 2 1911, with the place of business listed as Detroit, and papers were filed and recorded with the Secretary of State of Michigan the next day in Lansing, Michigan so November 3, 1911 became the incorporation date, though prior to then had presumably been “trading” as an unincorporated association or partnership, the Chevrolet Motor Company from March 1911, because Durant must have had a payroll and normal business expenses, in a room above the garage at 707 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, Michigan which was later re-numbered to 3939 Grand River Avenue and then moved over to the much larger 1145, West Grand Boulevard plant in August, being the leased former Corcoran Lamp Company building. The first Chevrolet drawings were made by M. Etienne Planche on 15 March 1911 at a garage premises at number 707, later 3939 Grand River Avenue, Detroit. It appears that the small second story space above the garage was used for new engine design and construction only. The prototypal Chevrolets were in fact produced in what would today be called a “pilot plant” in the 1145, West Grand Boulevard Plant that was used between August 1911 and August 1913. Durant tried to cover all aspects of the market, because the Little Six was introduced in January 1913 selling at under $1,400 alongside the first DETROIT-built Chevrolet Six which was to be called the Type C but at around 50% more expensive than the Little Four car.

  • Touring Car Racing - Overview Touring Car Racing Is an Auto Racing Competition of Advanced Racing Cars
COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Touring Car Racing - Overview Touring car racing is an auto racing competition of advanced racing cars. This sport is very popular in many countries like Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Germany, Sweden and Norway. However, its speed cannot be compared with Formula One. The touring car series consists of one or more endurance races with time duration of 3-24 hours. Basically, the event starts with a standard body shell but racing equipment like engines, suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires are permitted. Races of touring cars are conducted on road courses and street circuits. There is a very little technical difference between racing cars and touring cars. A casual observer can never point out the difference between the two. Touring cars come from family cars like sedans, hatchbacks and do not support high technical level. Just like any other racing game, all the riders participating in this game focus on covering the road track within the shortest time span and be the first one to win the game. The riders have to be quick and sharp as there can be a margin of less than one-tenth of a second between the first three finishers. History The British Touring Car (BTC) Championship, commonly known as touring car series, was founded in 1958 as British Saloon Car Championship and was renamed in 1987. This car racing series is conducted every year in the UK and is governed by the TCA. THANKS FOR READING – VISIT OUR WEBSITE www.educatererindia.com COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 The Touring Car Series Championship is following numerous national and international regulations like FIA Group 2, FIA Group 1, FIA Super Touring and FIA Super 2000.
