The 2017 Brisat is their generic white from around Capçanes. It is a blend of mostly Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo from early-harvested grapes that fermented in stainless steel with some skin contact and indigenous yeasts. It has a very balsamic nose, very Mediterranean, with lowish alcohol. It’s light and refreshing, with a floral nose and a very tasty finish. It has been kept with some lees in stainless steel and was ready to be bottled (in March 2018). They expect to produce some 5,000 bottles.

The generic red 2017 Negre is a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from different vineyards around Capçanes. It fermented with full clusters in stainless steel, where it was kept until bottling. It’s a fruit-driven, light, refreshing Mediterranean blend with notes of licorice and wild berries. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a soft, caressing texture. I tasted the wine that was going to be bottled (in March 2018). They expect to fill some 6,000 bottles.

The 2017 Vertebra - Figuera is sourced from two old vineyards planted with Garnacha in the village of . It is light and super long, with an herbal twist (à la Cabernet Franc), very spicy, with great complexity, floral and aromatic. The early-harvested grapes fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in concrete vats and were kept in concrete for five to six months.

It’s very impressive, with a very tasty palate, fine, chalky tannins and very good length. This is a light and elegant Garnacha. It’s really impressive for a first harvest and very pure, expressing the variety and place, a cooler part of Montsant in a higher-altitude village where the soils are red and have a strong limestone component. A very light-colored floral red with the spirit of a white. They expect to fill some 4,000 bottles of this in March 2018.

The Guix Vermell (Montalts) vineyard, planted with Garnacha some 60 years ago, is located at the top of the Montsant vineyard after the Mas Deu part of once you cross the border into Montsant. So, the grapes that go into the 2017 Guix Vermell were sourced from basically the same terroir as Les Manyes from Priorat, which is why this wine can have so much in common with the Les Manyes bottling from Terroir al Limit.

The full clusters fermented in amphorae for about one week to ten days, then they were pressed and put back in the amphorae, where the wine was kept until bottling. This is the more powerful and energy-loaded red here, a little more Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Proprietor Dominik Huber told me he does not want to offer the same quality as Les Manyes at a cheaper price, so he set the same price for it. I do not get the same complexity and depth I get from Les Manyes here (and I also previewed the components of the hypothetical Les Manyes the same day I sampled this), even if it’s very elegant, fine and long, with a refined palate and a velvety texture. It’s lively and vibrant, without the earthy character I get from many amphora wines. It’s a pure expression of Garnacha on red clay and limestone soils at high altitude, in a cool part of the appellation. The wine felt relaxed and harmonious. The flavors have great purity and definition, and the wine is very long.

A very impressive debut. They expect to fill some 1,000 bottles in March 2018, but the wine won’t be released until after one year in bottle.
