Origins of School Cricket in Ceylon The early origins of S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia date ba ck to 1851 when it was located in Mutwal, Colombo. It is the first Ceylonese school to play cricket - beginning 1864 against the Small Pass Cricket Club in Colombo. However, there has been no official comment on the rumours about the resignation, which if true would mean scrapping the grilling filed two weeks ago by three MPs over alleged violations, especially the payment of the $2.2 billion penalty to US’ Dow Chemical. Hussein submitted his resignation to the prime minister along with all Cabinet members two weeks ago after MPs surprised everyone by filing two requests to grill the ministers. In the meantime, Hussein carried out one of the biggest reshuffle in the oil sector, replacing the chief exec- utive officers of all the eight companies under Kuwait Petroleum Corp. The shakeup also included replacing the chief execu- tive officer of KPC Farouq Al-Zanki, who was replaced by Nezar Al- Adasani. A number of MPs swiftly welcomed the reported resignation but no one confirmed the report. Cricket lords over other sports in India and teams in the IPL, with a $3.5 billion estimated brand value, count Bollywood stars and major conglomerates such as Reliance Industries as investors. PepsiCo bagged the IPL title sponsorship rights in 2012 for five years (2013-17) for 3.97 billion Indian rupees ($61.31 million), almost double that DLF, India’s biggest listed property developer, paid for the rights from 2008- 12. The Twenty20 league has been dogged by corruption allegations for years and in July a panel set up by India’s top court recommended suspending the franchise owners of two teams for two years following an illegal betting and spot-fixing scandal. Reports said PepsiCo’s decision was based on issues that have brought the game into “disrepute”. “BCCI and PepsiCo have had a longstanding cordial relationship and have been in discussions to work out a solution which addresses PepsiCo’s concerns. Both parties will share it when ready,” the board and the company said in a joint statement. The statement gave no further details on the specific issues at stake.
