In August, the Harold and Elaine Shames JCC on the Hudson in Tarrytown, sent a delegation to the Macabbi games in California. The delegation –the only one from Westchester, which also included youngsters from Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey, won the gold medal in boys 16u (aged 16 and under) soccer, the Silver in 14u (14 and under) and 16u boys basketball and the bronze in 14u tennis. The winning teams included teens from New Rochelle, Irvington, White Plains, Katonah, and Scarsdale. Making it interesting, due to the luck of the draw, two Shames basketball teams had to play each other. One won the Silver. Also participating, were sisters from Ardsley, competing in swimming for the first time. Twins from Scarsdale competed in 14u soccer and brothers from Scarsdale competed in hockey. Recruiting has started for next year when the games will be in Atlanta and Detroit. Those inter- ested should contact Director Steve Weisbrot at [email protected].
