Best, Bob Williamson…And here’s the letter: http://www.vnews.com/ Forum: A Child of an Era of Fear When I was 12 years old, I began scanning for exits at every movie theater I went to and carefully thought through escape scenarios as the previews played. I assessed the space between the seats and the floor. Would I be able to crawl between the armrest and the wall unseen? That was the year of the Aurora shooting. If you don’t remember the details, 12 people were murdered in a Century 16 theater in Aurora, Colo.. They were watching The Dark Knight Rises. I had begged to see the movie myself, and as I read the headlines online, I realized that innocent people had died, and that I could easily have been one of them. I am a child of an era of fear. Born almost exactly a year after Columbine, I grew up with the pitch black, unspoken terror of lockdown drills. Hiding in corners and closets and behind desks, as if turning the lights off will convince a killer that school’s been canceled on a Tuesday in May; as if a bookshelf will protect me from the rain of bullets driven by some arbitrary vendetta against society. -

There are 626 names here, and 82 of them in FEDERAL races! The number of seated progressives is about to at least TRIPLE this November, so don’t believe the hype! (updated 9/16/18) The list is now annotated! People have been asking me for ages: “WHY do these people count as Berniecrats?” So now there’s a key, from most left-leaning to most moderate: (DSA) - endorsed by Democratic Socialists of America, the leftist group that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a member of. (even to the left of Bernie!) (Bernie) - endorsed by Bernie personally (LB) - endorsed by Local Berniecrats, a grassroots group with no money that started on the Internet with the goal of making Bernie’s down-ballot dream come true (OR) - endorsed by Our Revolution, either national or a local branch. The organization started by Bernie Sanders. (W) - personally endorsed by me, Warren Lynch. This candidate is a person I know personally, and I vouch for them that they are a progressive. (JD) - endorsed by Justice Democrats, the group run by The Young Turks (PCCC) - endorsed by, or my friend from, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, the progressive group which sent me to DC to learn stuff. Vermont Council of Developmental and Mental Health Services Legislative Update for January 13, 2015 House Human Services Committee Hears Overview from the Department of Mental Health On Thursday January 8 th the House Human Services received an overview of the Department of Mental Health from Commissioner Paul Dupre, Deputy Commissioner Frank Reed, Medical Director Jaskanwar Batra, and Adult Mental Health Director Susan Onderwyser. Ann Pugh pointed out that other than VPCH and the secure residential, all the work is contracted out to non-profit organizations. Jascanwar Batra and Frank Reed described the designated agencies and our programs. A particularly important fact shared was that crisis calls have risen to 30,000 per year compared to previous years when there were 13,000 – 17,000 calls. While the House Education Committee has decided to set aside H.15, we believe that specific components of that bill will enhance compliance with Act 46 for many communities around the state, including some of the towns that we represent. There are three specific components embedded in H.15 that we request the House Education Committee include in your revisions to S.122: • Sec. 8(c) of H.15 which states: "The State Board may adopt rules designed to implement this act [Act 461 but shall not by rule or otherwise impose additional requirements to those envisioned by this act." This section addresses the rulemaking that the State Board of Education began to pursue in 2016 that would have raised the bar on the requirements for approval of an Alternative Structure. • Sec. 1(c)(6) of H.15 which states: "The combined average daily membership, as defined in 16 V.S.A. § 4001(1), of all member districts is not less than 500." This section would allow groups of small districts that otherwise would not be able to meet the numerical requirements of Act 46 to combine using an Alternative Structure. -

Box 987 Shelburne, VT 05482 [email protected] Dear Vermonter, The Vermont Wildlife Coalition is pleased to present the second edition of the Annual Review of Legislative Action on Wildlife. This edition covers the 2019-20 legislative session. It will: 1) update you on current wildlife issues in the form of actual and proposed bills before the legislature, 2) show, when information is available, where legislators, the governor, the Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Fish and Wildlife Board stand on those issues. It will be up to you to decide whether these parties are representing your interests, 3) clarify who is making decisions about Vermont’s wildlife. Why should you care? One compelling reason is that wildlife is an essential member of the ecological community that sustains all life, including humans. Another reason is that by law, wildlife is held in trust by the state for Vermonters, present and future. We can separate out the ways that different groups enjoy wildlife, but no group owns wildlife or can claim rights above those of other Vermont citizens with respect to wildlife. Finally, wildlife in 2019 faces impacts from many directions. Those include cultural shifts in attitudes towards animals, declining interest in hunting/trapping, global warming, habitat loss to development, increased human-animal interactions, pollution, declining department revenue from traditional sources, and dramatic changes in conservation science. If you care about wildlife, and understand that wildlife is under threat, you will need to stay informed and take action. As you look through this issue, you’ll notice that the legislature seemed to have taken little real action regarding wildlife in the past session. -

Jill Krowinski, Speaker, House of Representatives Date: February 19, 2021 Subject: Recommendations on Governor’s FY22 budget As requested, the House Committee on Human Services (Committee) has reviewed provisions of the Governor’s proposed fiscal year 2022 budget. The Committee thanks the House Committee on Appropriations for the opportunity to comment on these provisions. The recommendations in this memo represent the top priorities of each subgroup assigned to review various aspects of the Agency of Human Services’ budget. The Committee concurs with any proposals in the Governor’s budget that are not specifically referenced below. This memo does not address the proposed appropriations in bills under consideration in the Committee. H 171, an act relating to governance and financing of the Vermont child care system, includes a proposed appropriation of $2,500,000.00 for current and prospective child care and early learning provider scholarships and student loan repayment programs. The Committee has not completed its work on H.171, nor has it made a decision about the proposed appropriation. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerabilities of Vermont’s human services systems. The Committee knew that Vermont’s social safety net was frayed, but it did not know to what extent. During 2020, the impacts of COVID-19 have provided a keener, clearer revelation of that concerning reality, laying bare the myriad cracks and holes in Vermont’s community-based systems of care.
