Crouser, Dohmann Open 2018 Outdoor with Meet Records • Seniors Fabian Dohmann and Haley Crouser opened their 2018 outdoor campaign with a pair of victories and meets records in the javelin at the UTSA Invitational. • Dohmann started the day off for the Longhorns and registered his biggest throw since winning the Big 12 Cham- pionship his freshman year in 2014. He muscled the javelin out to a distance of 74.18 meters (243-4) and bested the field by 19 feet. • Dohmann’s throw was just 3 inches shy of his personal record and would have ranked No. 12 in the NCAA last year. • Crouser dominated the field winning by more than 12 feet. Longhorns Sweep Multi-Events • Ashtin Zamzow made history for the Longhorns becoming the first woman to win a Big 12 title in the pentathlon. • Her score of 4,076 points also set a new school record for Texas. • Zamzow was in a battle with Texas Tech’s Kaylee Hinton throughout the competition and it came down to the narrowest of margins as she defeated Hinton by just 1 point. • Going into the final event, Zamzow needed to make sure Hinton did not finish more than half a second ahead of

The both came to the line together with Hinton just edging Zamzow, but the Longhorn dove for the BIG 12 ATHLETE OF THE WEEK finish line and clocked 2:18.02 and was .44 behind Hinton’s 2:17.58. • It marked only the 2nd time in Big 12 history the pentathlon was decided by single digits. 2018 Big 12 Conference Track & Field • George Patrick dominated the field to win the heptathlon with a total of 5,552 points. He posted personal bests Athlete of the Week in all 4 events on Day 1 to take command and build a comfortable cushion. • His win marked the 9th Big 12 title for the Texas men in the heptathlon, an event they have had more success in Indoor than any other team in the conference. Emery joined Rogers in the final of the Outdoor mile and finished fifth to make it 14 points in that event.Jake McConnell took 6th in the 1000m. The pair of John Men Rice and Charles Mills combined for 7 points in the 5000m and Rice added 5 more points in the 3000m. April 18 Standing in 3rd place after Round 3, Piperi took the lead on his 5th throw. His throw of 19.24m put him in the lead, April 25 but he extended it in Round 6 with a mark of 19.52m (64-0.50). That extra distance was needed as on the final throw May 2 May 9 of the competition KU’s Nicolai Ceban threw 19.30m. • Piperi’s win makes him the first freshman to win the men’s shot put since Lifetime LonghornRyan Crouser in 2012. Women • Piperi hopes to follow in Crouser’s footsteps as a freshman and be one of a very few to finish in the Top 8 at the Date Name School Events NCAA Championship in the shot put. Lifetime Longhorns Earn Medals at World Indoor Championships • won her first individual medal at a world championship competition for Team USA as she crossed first in the 400 meters. Her gold medal marked the 3rd Longhorn to win gold in the women’s 400m indoors. • Okolo also helped Team USA win gold in the 4x400m relay, running the anchor leg. She and her teammates joined forces to run 3:23.85 for a new American record and a new World Indoor Championships meet record. • Aldrich Bailey Jr. earned his first international medal with Team USA as a member of the men’s 4x400m relay team. He ran the third leg of the relay that would go on to win silver behind a Polish team that set a new world record.
