Du RC Toulon Rugby : la "business story" du RC Toulon « L'argent ne fait pas le bonheur »...Cette célèbre maxime est aussi vraie dans le sport en général et dans le rugby en particulier quand on voit la performance qu'est en passe de réaliser le RC Toulon qui, après avoir gagné la Coupe d'Europe en battant Clermont dans une finale haletante, s'est qualifié brillamment pour la finale du Top 14 en battant le mythique Stade Toulousain vendredi dernier à Nantes.Pourtant, si on regarde les budgets du Top 14, le club de Mourad Boudjellal ne pointe qu'en 4ème position avec 21.84 millions d'euros, loin derrière le Stade Toulousain (34.97 millions), Clermont (25.52 millions) et le Stade Français (22.81 millions), trois clubs qui viennent de terminer une saison...blanche. En finale, les toulonnais rencontreront les surprenants castrais qui ne sont, avec 15.61 millions d'euros, que 9ème budget de l'élite rugbystique française.Comment alors les toulonnais peuvent-ils être sur le point de réaliser un exploit que seuls les toulousains ont réalisé en 1996 ? Par un recrutement judicieux fait de stars en fin de carrière ayant envie, avant de prendre leur retraite sportive, de réaliser quelques exploits pour partir en beauté et de joueurs ayant envie de relancer leur carrière après une blessure ou une expérience malheureuse. Dans la première catégorie on peut classer des joueurs comme le mythique Jonny Wilkinson et son compatriote Simon Shaw ou encore les sud-africains Bakkies Botha ou Danie Rossouw, les quatre ayant en commun d'avoir été champions du monde avec leur équipe nationale, en 2003 pour les premiers et en 2007 pour les seconds. Dans la seconde catégorie, on peut classer des joueurs comme Frédéric Michalak qui, entre la France et l'Afrique du Sud, a enfin trouvé un club où se relancer ou encore Maxime Mermoz et Alexis Palisson qui ont quitté leurs clubs respectifs qui traversaient une zone de turbulence financière (le CA Briviste pour le premier, l'USAP pour le second). Pour faire prendre la mayonnaise, mettez à la tête du staff technique un Bernard Laporte qui, après deux échecs en ½ finale de coupe du monde et une expérience vite avortée au Stade Français, avait envie de montrer ce qu'il savait faire et vous avec le RC Toulon 2013. Sans oublier bien entendu le Président Mourad Boudjellal sans qui rien n'aurait été possible puisqu'il a repris le club alors que celui-ci évoluait en Pro D2 après avoir subi deux rétrogradations, la première financière en 2000 et la seconde sportive immédiatement après une première remontée en 2006.Inutile de dire que le modèle économique toulonnais devrait inspirer bien des Présidents de clubs professionnels puisque, outre les résultats sportifs qui sont excellents, le club devrait réaliser des bénéfices à la fin de l'exercice..
