IN MEMORIUMMEMORIUM------STEVESTEVE TWELVES I’m sorry to report that longtime Fleet 4 and FLYC member Steve Twelves died August 7 after fighting spinal cancer for nine years. Steve and his family were active in both racing and cruising with both clubs; the Twelves always added great camaraderie to the events. Steve’s wry humor and constant helpfulness will be remembered by all of us who shared sailing experiences with him. Our condolences and prayers go to Steve’s wife Phyllis, son Ryan and daughter Hillary. Many Fleet 4 and FLYC members attended the services for Steve. We left Folsom after work on a Monday and arrived at Long Beach about midnight. We checked in to the Coast Long Beach Hotel near the Queen Mary. The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel and walked over to the marina. The Harbor Light Yacht Club is on the grounds of the hotel and they share the parking lot. We were to have a , but when we arrived, we were upgraded to a Mk II as the other boat was being repaired. What a nice boat! I don’t think it was very old, in fact all the boats looked like new and were well taken care of. Ours had a swim ladder with a hot/cold water deck shower on the transom, a cockpit table, stereo and lots of other neat stuff, as well as safety gear. I did bring my hand held GPS, which we put on the pedestal of the steering wheel and was helpful while steering. The boat’s GPS was located in the nav station below, out of sight of the helm. The guys at the dock were very helpful and friendly and the boat was clean and ready to go. We left Long Beach
