JUDGES

Conformation: Mr Adrian Woodfork (U.S.A.)

Adrian Woodfork started showing dogs 40 years ago at the age of 13. He has paid a lot of dues in the dog world, going from a junior showman to breeder/exhibitor, and now an AKC licensed judge.

Adrian is licensed to judge a total of 8 breeds-, Dobermanns, Siberians, Great Pyrenees, Portuguese Water Dogs, , Boxers, and Akitas.

He has owned and bred many Dachshunds and Doberman Pinschers under the kennel name Addox. His proudest moment came when one of his dogs won Best of Winners at the 1991 Doberman Pinscher National Specialty Show in Phoenix. He is particularly proud of breeding several top twenty obedience competitors.

In 1997, he became an AKC approved judge and has judged 10 Doberman Pinscher specialties including the DPCA National Specialty in Fitchburg where he judged the puppy, veteran, stud dog and brood bitch classes. His judging experience also extends to foreign countries, including Buenos Aires and Canada.

Top 20 DPCA National in Kentucky, 2001 Oct, Puget Sound Doberman Pinscher Club in Seattle 2001 Aug, Doberman Pinscher Club of Santa Ana 2001 June, Doberman Pinscher Club of Argentina 2000, The DPCA National in Fitchburg in 1999, Twin Cities Doberman Pinscher Club in Minneapolis 1999, Doberman Pinscher Club of Alberta, Canada 1999, Tucson Doberman Pinscher Club 1998, Doberman Pinscher Club of Charlotte 1997, Mt. Hood Doberman Pinscher Club 1997.

In addition, he has judged numerous Doberman competitions at all-breed shows.

Most of his life Adrian has worked in the broadcast industry, during which time he produced many dog stories. In 1988, after an exciting fun filled stint in television news Adrian started a new adventure as a free-lance television producer, actor and commercial model. He worked for national TV magazine shows including America’s Most Wanted, Inside Edition, and American Journal. He has appeared in national commercials for Toyota, Hertz, and American Express. His numerous print credits include Apple Computers, Mercury, Bank of America, Harrah’s and Hewlett Packard. The fun project however, was producing and directing a public service announcement with Actress Kim Basinger.

Currently, he works as a public information officer for the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He recently appeared in a “Breed All About It” segment on Animal Planet with the CDFA public relations dog Joe, a .

Adrian and wife Linda reside in Sacramento with two children Jena and Julian, and best friends Jada (Doberman) and Zoey ().

Agility and Jumpers: Damian Bourne (NT)

Damian and his wife Helga have now bred 38 Australian Champion Dobermanns in the Tornadobe prefix, including three Grand Champions and seven which have achieved ROM status.

They have also titled six dobermanns from other prefixes, including their import, American Champion Hugadobe Ticket To Ride CD, ROM, who became the first and so far only imported ROM in Australia. Tornadobe has also produced over 30 at CD and CDX titles, and has lost count of the number of dogs which have achieved Working Aptitude Certificates (WACs). There have now been Tornadobe Best In Show winners and champions in every State and Territory of Australia (four individual winners in the NT in the first six months of 2002). They have also owned and titled three German Shorthair Pointers and three Jack Russell Terriers.

They started in dobermanns in Darwin in 1982. In 1983 they moved to Canberra where they bred their first litter, in 1986, which produced five BIS-winning champions. In 1994 they moved to Western Australia, and in December 2000 finally returned home to Darwin.

Damian is licensed to judge Group Six (Utility), all levels of Agility and Jumping Dogs, and Novice and Open obedience. He is also a trainee judge for Group Three (Gundogs). He has judged at championship show level in WA, and in July 2002 judged the Queensland Specialty in Brisbane (entry 91). He is now the secretary of the Northern Territory Canine Association's governing council and president of the Fred's Pass Kennel and Obedience Club.

As their record of ROMs and WACs would indicate, Damian and Helga put great emphasis on the all- round dobermann, sound in mind and body, stable enough for the modern world but still capable of doing the job envisaged for it by Louis Dobermann.

Working Aptitude Evaluation: Dawn Ayton (VIC)

Dawn is the Co-ordinator of the National Dobermann Council (Australia)'s REGISTER OF MERIT program.

Dawn has judged Working Aptitude Evaluations in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia & Queensland.

Dawn is also an active competitor in the conformation, obedience and, more recently, Schutzhund rings.

Obedience: Dr Amanda Bowen (WA)

ACCOMMODATION

The majority of the activities will be held at the Canine Association of WA Headquarters, which is on the corner of Warton and Ranford Roads in Southern River.

As you may be aware Perth is still quite a small city and travel from one end to the other is not a difficult venture. Most accommodation in the Perth metropolitan area will be less than 1 hour's drive from the venue. The CBD is at the most a 30-minute drive from the Canine Centre.

For those people who would like to stay close to other competitors and the main venue we are suggesting:

Heritage Country Motel, CNR. Albany Highway & South West Highway, Armadale, Western Australia, 6112 Phone : (08) 9399 5122 (RAC 3Star)

This motel is about 12 min from the canine grounds and close to many amenities. There are 28 rooms that should accommodate a large proportion of our visitors.

There is plenty of parking and the management are willing for dogs to be housed in their vehicles.

Single $69.00 Family Room (5 Persons) $130.00 Double/Twin $79.00 Executive Suite $110.00 Triple $90.00 Folder Bed $10.00 Family Room (4 Persons) $120.00 Cot $10.00

Prices correct at time of publication – please confirm when booking Booking can be made via their website: www.heritagecountrymotel.com.au (They are experiencing some internet problems so please confirm your booking by telephone).

The magnificent colonial-style Heritage Country Motel, adjoining the hotel, proudly offers its guests truly international class accommodation.

The 28 luxuriously appointed serviced units come in double, triple and family or executive combinations. All are air-conditioned with colour televisions.

The two-storey complex, in a delightfully secluded and wooded setting, has a central courtyard with a large swimming pool.

Heritage Country Motel is located in the hills suburb of Armadale at the junction of Albany and South West Highways, just 29 kilometres south of Perth and just 12 kilometres from the Canine Association of WA Grounds.

Armadale is well served by public transport with regular bus and train services from the city.

Complex Facilities Swimming pool Fax services Tennis court close by Off street parking Children’s play area close by Restaurant close by Shared BBQ facilities Tour information available

Please note: Management do not permit dogs in rooms. Strict adherence required.

Suitable caravan parks in the area are quite hard to find, as many do not allow dogs. Many also have a large number of permanent residents and not a great deal of on-site accommodation.

However those interested in this type of accommodation may like to try: PERTH – The Place To Be In 2003Page 14 INFORMATION BOOKLET

Crystal Brook Caravan Park, Kelvin Road, Orange Grove Phone: 08 9453 6226 (RAC 2½ star) About 20 – 25 minutes from the grounds. A small number of cabins available.

If you don’t mind travelling a bit further there is the Banksia Tourist Village, 219 Midland Road, Hazelmere Phone: 08 9250 2236 (RAC 4½ star) www.banksiatourist.com.au If you are contacting this caravan park and wish to have your dogs with you, it is advisable to make arrangements with the management as they do have some restrictions on dogs.

Also there are a large number of kennels near the Canine Centre. If anyone is interested in kennelling their dogs during their stay in Perth there are several owners willing to accommodate your needs. See Boarding Kennels below.

If you are interested in kennelling or have any other questions about accommodation please contact Brett Christie on 0409 290 352.
