SUEZ ANNOUNCES THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ENERGY-FROM-WASTE PLANT IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

SUEZ announces the construction of a new Energy-from-Waste plant in Stockton-on- Tees (County of Durham) in the United Kingdom to manage household and commercial waste in the North East of the country from 2021. With an investment of approximately €150 million, this facility will be owned by the Group, demonstrating its confidence in the future of its businesses in the country and providing a concrete response to the lack of infrastructure. 5 Energy-from-Waste process lines are currently operated in Teesside, to serve the authorities of Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Northumberland, as well as the South Tyne & Wear Waste Management Partnership. This new line will be located on the same site and will be able to treat 240,000 tonnes of residual waste a year from 2021. It will have a capacity production of 25 MW of electricity, the equivalent of the consumption of 30,000 households. In the United Kingdom, SUEZ intervenes on the complete waste cycle, providing services to local authorities through Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contracts, as well as to companies. The Group manages more than 10 million tonnes of waste every year. To date, it operates 7 Energy-from-Waste facilities1, which produced 1,195 GWh of electricity in 2017. It is currently building a residual waste gasification facility in Surrey. With an investment of approximately €150 million, the Group will own this new Energy-from-Waste plant, demonstrating its confidence in the future of the Recycling & Recovery businesses in the country and providing a concrete response to the lack of infrastructure2.
