Introduction None of the early Corporation records survive among the present documents, all of which date from after 1855 when the Town Commissioners were established. Some of these earlier records may be included amongst the Lismore and Chatsworth papers. When the Old Narket House in Lower Main Street was sold by the Duke of Devonshire in 1861 other records may have been destroyed as the first floor of this building housed the Corporation rooms. A note in the Minutes dated April 1885 records that Edmond Keohan and and other Commissioners were to 'examine and class the papers in the office, to take proper steps for their preservationf. It is not clear whether these papers included any pre 1855 documents. There are several references throughout the minutes to the Letter Books, unfortunately these have not survived which is a great pity as they included letters from notable personalities and political figures. It is thought that other records were destroyed in the 1950s during an over enthusiastic clean out of the Town Hall in Friary Street. However some documents may have escaped destruction over the years and are now in private hands.

  • Church of Ireland Parish Registers
National Archives Church of Ireland Parish Registers SURROGATES This listing of Church of Ireland parochial records available in the National Archives is not a list of original parochial returns. Instead it is a list of transcripts, abstracts, and single returns. The Parish Searches consist of thirteen volumes of searches made in Church of Ireland parochial returns (generally baptisms, but sometimes also marriages). The searches were requested in order to ascertain whether the applicant to the Public Record Office of Ireland in the post-1908 period was entitled to an Old Age Pension based on evidence abstracted from the parochial returns then in existence in the Public Record Office of Ireland. Sometimes only one search – against a specific individual – has been recorded from a given parish. Multiple searches against various individuals in city parishes have been recorded in volume 13 and all thirteen volumes are now available for consultation on six microfilms, reference numbers: MFGS 55/1–5 and MFGS 56/1. Many of the surviving transcripts are for one individual only – for example, accessions 999/562 and 999/565 respectively, are certified copy entries in parish registers of baptisms ordered according to address, parish, diocese; or extracts from parish registers for baptismal searches. Many such extracts are for one individual in one parish only. Some of the extracts relate to a specific surname only – for example accession M 474 is a search against the surname ”Seymour” solely (with related names). Many of the transcripts relate to Church of Ireland parochial microfilms – a programme of microfilming which was carried out by the Public Record Office of Ireland in the 1950s.

  • Volume 4 - Environmental Report
Waterford County Development Plan 2011-2017 Plean Forbartha Chontae Phort Láirge 2011-2017 Volume 4 - Environmental Report Waterford County Council STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT STATEMENT WATERFORD COUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN REVIEW 2011 - 2017 February 2011 Waterford County Council Comhairle Chontae Port Láirge SEA Statement An Environmental Report was prepared by Waterford County Council on the potential significant environmental impacts of the Draft County Waterford Development Plan 2011-2017. Alternatives were considered for the future growth of the county that included continuing with existing amount of zoning in the County Development Plan 2005-2011 or reducing the area of zoned land in support of objectives in the Regional Planning Guidelines, Water Framework Directive and national energy policy. The preferred strategy was a reduction in zoned land to an area of 461 ha for residential development. Publication of the South East Regional Planning Guidelines 2010-2022 and provisions of the Planning Act 2000 (as amended) has stipulated the need for alignment of the Core Strategy with the Regional Planning Guidelines population thresholds and consequently a review of the Core Strategy contained in the Draft County Development Plan will commence in 2011. The Environmental Report highlighted key environmental pressures in the county that include water quality with the need to restore surface water quality in Dungarvan Bay, and Waterford Estuary, groundwaters around the River Suir, bathing waters in Ardmore and Dunmore East, continued monitoring of public water supplies and provision of sufficient capacity in waste water treatment plants and the Seven Villages Scheme. The need to maintain water quality is key to conservation of biodiversity and water dependant habitats and species.

  • The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers
THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.

One of the most important and spectacular Cistercian monasteries in Ireland, it was founded in the twelfth century, though the great- square tower of the church was not added until the fifteenth century. It is justly famed for the excellence of its sculptured cloister and tombs. EDITORIAL Only a few years ago, the study of local history was regarded as a hobby suitable only for small and generally (but not always) amiable groups of mildly eccentric enthusiasts. This situation is rapidly changing. The publ ic at large is learning through the mass media of the potentially disastrous consequences of neglect of the environment on the one hand and of unplanned development on the other. This change of attitude is to be seen at a number of different levels.

  • Chapter 7 Infrastructure
Waterford County Development Plan 2011-2017 Volume 1 Chapter 7 Infrastructure 7.0 Introduction The requirement for the expansion of Waterford’s public infrastructure is derived from both the unprecedented development levels experienced in the County up to 2008, and the estimated needs of the future development patterns in the County. The achievement of an appropriate balance between infrastructure provision and land use zoning establishes an effective and efficient foundation for future capital investment in road, water supply, wastewater treatment and waste management projects in the County. Policy INF 1 To protect and where necessary enhance the quality of service infrastructure that will promote socio- economic development and environmental objectives in the County, and improve the quality of life for its citizens. Policy INF 2 Where specific water or wastewater projects are proposed in individual settlements, these are set out in the Development Objectives in Volume 2 – The Map Booklet. An Infrastructural Capacity Assessment of each of the zoned settlements is set out in Appendix A4.1 7.1 Transport As Waterford is a predominantly rural County characterised by a dispersed network of small to medium sized settlements, the National, Regional and Local roads provide the physical connections that are essential to meet the daily transport requirements of its citizens. National and international travel from the County is also possible via the National rail network, Waterford Regional Airport and the sea ports. 1 The need for an upgrade of the WWTP and associated wastewater infrastructure is recognised in this Plan, especially to avoid adverse effects on the freshwater pearl mussel population in the River Clodiagh, and the Council will endeavour to obtain priority status for these works.
