GENERAL TEACHING At UKLC we know how important it is for each individual student to find their own path in language learning. Thanks to our long experience in this sector we provide a wide range of methods that are able to engage our students effectively, by stimulating their motivation.

According to their age and needs, students’ motivation must be triggered differently, and this is why we have designed a tailored programme that will satisfy all students who study with us, from the young learners who want to have fun playing in English, to the most expert users who want to prepare for an exam or to apply for a university here in the UK. This programme is called You Can Learn 4, or as we like to call it UKL4.

To support this, UKLC also offer optional Conversation Clubs in the evenings, as well as “Off to See Grammar” and sessions on “Funetics and Funology”. UKLC also offers CLIL lessons on request.

UKL4 FUN This is the programme dedicated to our young learners, and it is designed especially to trigger motivation in children aged 8-10. Our UKL4 FUN lessons are highly communicative, and they offer a wide range of tailored material and activities that make games into lessons and lessons into games. Children will be guided through the English language and culture by some very special teachers, who might just have come out of a fairy tale book.

Age: 8-10 Keyword: FUN Sample activities/lessons: The Mad Tea Party, The Lost Slipper, Olaf’s Holiday, Inside Out. CEFR: A1/A2

P a g e 9 | 15

UKL4 CONNECTION This is the programme dedicated to our junior learners (11-14) and it aims at increasing the students’ motivation to use English in order to connect with other people. Our UKL4 CONNECTION lessons are very interactive and use a variety of methods and media to encourage students to establish a connection, not only with their peers, but also with the English language and British culture.

Age: 11-14 Keyword: CONNECT Sample activities/lessons: Real-life Facebook, Kill Your Teacher, Crazy Inventions, Dragons’ Den CEFR: A1 > B1

UKL4 ACTION Our UKL4 ACTION programme is designed especially for teenagers who want to use their English and activate what they know. This does not mean that students will not learn anything new, on the contrary, they will be pushed out of their comfort zone in order to enhance their abilities and to get their English into some real action. These lessons are highly multimedial and make use of a wide range of authentic materials.

Age: 15-17 Keyword: ACTION Sample activities/lessons: He Had It Coming, Catch Me If You Can, We Will Rock You CEFR: A1 > B2

UKL4 MASTERS We know how good some of our students’ English is, and we are ready for it. We have designed a brand new programme that explores the English language in depth: UKL4 MASTERS. In these lessons you will be looking at different aspects of the English language from a more technical point of view, concentrating of structures, phonology, idiomatic expressions, linguistic features and more. This programme aims at empowering our students’ skills thanks to a thorough work on all language systems (grammar, phonology, lexis, discourse) as well as to take an exam in English (PET, FCE, TOEFL, IELTS).

Age: 15-17 Keyword: EXAMS Sample activities/lessons: Academic reading/writing, Presentations, Discourse, Complex Grammar CEFR: B1 > C2

Placement tests - We offer classes at four levels from Elementary to Upper Intermediate. Students are given a placement test on their first day of classes to ensure they are placed at the correct level. Once the tests have been marked students won’t be told their score unless they specifically ask for it but will be placed into a class from level from A1-C1 based on these results. If students are not happy with their level, they can speak with the course director who can decide if it is necessary for the student to change levels.

We always try to split groups into different classes to mix nationalities but this does depend on their levels and the numbers of students that we have on site. We will provide all course materials, including an exercise book and a pen.

SECURITY There is CCTV coverage on campus and on site duty officer available 24/7. Emergency contacts - During your stay each student will be given a wrist band upon arrival, this will have the following emergency telephone number printed on it: 00 44 1244 567695. If you need to contact the centre in the event of an emergency please call this number and follow the options for the relevant centre, this will then put you through to the person on duty. Certain basic guidelines are common to all centres and all students. You should advise them to:

 Never to go off alone!  Always make sure that you know where they are!  Never to leave the residence without permission in the evening!  Always make sure they have understood when and where the meeting point is whilst out on excursions!  Always wear their Identification Lanyard and their UKLC wristband!

And remind them:  That there is a 24hour emergency telephone number on the wristband (0044 1244 567695) and that the number for the emergency services (Ambulance/Police/Fire) in England is 999, or the single emergency number for the EU including the UK is 112 or they can call 101 to report a crime where you do not need an emergency response  That the police are there to help and protect and can be asked for assistance!  Never to respond to someone if they feel threatened, simply walk away!  To give you their money to put in the safe and never to carry large amounts of cash around  To be careful crossing the road. Remember that in the UK we drive on the left!!  If they are ill or need a doctor, to tell you or a member of UKLC staff immediately!  To keep all windows closed when not in their bedrooms!

Insurance and valuables - Although all houses are locked and accessed with keys, it is suggested that students try to avoid bringing very expensive items with them. If they are bringing valuables with them, it essential that they have sufficient insurance to cover any loss of damage as neither the centre nor the company can be held responsible if anything goes missing.
