“I get invaluable feedback from our players when I ask them, ‘What don’t you like about our basses?’ Once we know that, we make better basses.” - Dan Lakin

Welcome Home

It was 1994 when Lakland Basses was born in Chicago, Illinois from the collective vision of three principals – a luthier and two musicians – who shared a common goal of creating a new bass that would carry on the lineage of the great American builders. Lakland provides bass guitars that combine elements of the pioneering bass builders whose designs are the very definitions of traditional style and ergonomics, with contemporary components to match and surpass the playability of more esoteric basses that have entered the market in recent years. Lakland bass guitars have a sound and feel that are at once familiar and unique – any player who picks up a Lakland bass immediately feels at home. Welcome home to Lakland Basses.

Bass Done Right

At Lakland, we concern ourselves with quality at every step of our process. All Lakland bodies and necks are precision-machined from the best pieces of tone wood to ensure that every instrument meets our strict standards of excellence without variation from bass to bass. The quality of our details comes from the tireless work of our Lakland team – a group of musicians and craftsmen who understand what other players are looking for. Equipped with identical pickups and made to the same physical specs as our US model, The Skyline 44-60 is a true workhorse and a dream to play. The controls are the familiar three knob, volume- volume-tone set up. Our final set-up touches and a ride on the Plek® machine insure incredible playability. You must play one to believe it! The Decade is designed to take advantage of a strategically wide pickup placement. A true neck position pickup provides earth moving low end and warmth. The super punchy bridge pickup delivers effortless “Jaco style” tone. You need to hear this bass to believe it! Because of it’s extra wide tonal range, many seasoned ears have mistaken the passive Decade for an active instrument. The body shape is a Lakland original yet looks like a timeless classic. The pickguard, affectionately referred to as “The Molar”, really adds to the Decade’s style. Our spoke wheel truss rod adjustment offers the Decade the deepest neck pickup location on the market.

Lakland would like to sincerely thank our online advisors, who were “instrumental” in bringing the Decade to life. They provided valuable suggestions from the initial prototype to actually naming the bass.
