The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (H.A.R.D.) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul McCreary as the new General Manager effective January 19, 2016. Mr. McCreary comes to our District from the City of Dublin where he served as the Parks and Community Services Director. He brings 23 years of experience in the recreation field encompassing recreation programming, capital projects, land acquisition, as well as planning and park development. Mr. McCreary received his Bachelor of Science, Park and Recreation Administration from California State University, Chico and his Masters of Public Administration from the SPRING 2016 University of San Francisco. This new appointment comes at a very exciting and busy time for the District that is undertaking many new projects and initiatives to serve the District with high quality services and facilities. 3 From the President Minane Jameson, Board President Many Plans Underway to Make 2016 Another Great Year for Residents! During 2016 our District plans to finish construction of Phase #1 renovations at our San Lorenzo Community Center. This 12.1 million dollar project will result in a newly configured and enhanced park. The new amenities will include a relocated pond, new playgrounds, bathrooms, softball complex, new access and paths, and much more! Additionally, we will continue our efforts of planning, improvement and expansion of many other District President’s Message Parks and facilities. During the past three years we have done extensive master planning for future renovations | and improvements. Visit our website at www.haywardrec.org to view all details related to master planning of Weekes, Kennedy, San Lorenzo, Via Toledo, Fairview Terrace, and San Felipe Parks. Our Board is seeking creative alternatives to bring these plans into reality . so stay tuned! Our District continues to partner with the County of Alameda and in the construction of a new 18,000 square foot Cherryland Community Center, construction is planned to begin in 2016. This Community Center will include elements of full-service recreation offerings for all ages including classrooms, community gathering, satellite County library and reception space to accommodate groups up to 240. In addition to planning for the future we are also preserving and improving our existing facilities and parks. Capital improvements recently completed include Sorensdale Recreation Center (assembly hall renovation), Foundation News Castro Valley Swim Center renovation, Greenwood Park, San Felipe Community Center (heating and air conditioning), and new park restroom facilities at Bret Harte, Mervin Morris and Stonebrae Park. Although resources continue to be limited, our District is committed to making all efforts to improve our vast and aging infrastructure. 2016 Elected Board Officers Each year, in accordance with District Bylaws, the Board of Directors is reorganized and its officers elected. The Board of 2015 are as follows: Minane Jameson, President; Louis M. Andrade, Vice President; Carol A. Pereira, Secretary. The Board and Staff of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District hope that you will take advantage of all that the District has to offer during 2016! (510) 881-6700 (510) Foundation News Donna Boyer, President | Pamela Russo, Executive Director We are very pleased to report that CARH (Care, Advancement, Respect and Hope) has provided over $200,000 to the HARD Foundation to renovate the Life Skills Lab and Wellness Gym at Sorensdale Recreation Center and also fund the Wildlife and Animal Community Enrichment Program at Sulphur Creek Nature Center. CARH has been an amazing support and partner to HARD and we are eternally grateful for their support. The HARD Foundation would like to take this opportunity to recognize the longstanding dedicated efforts of John Gouveia, General Manager of HARD, who is retiring in January 2016.
