AS Roma have it all to do in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against FC Barcelona having been beaten 4-1 in Spain. • Own goals from Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas were added to by Gerard Piqué at the Camp Nou on 4 April. Although Edin Džeko briefly raised Roma spirits, a late fourth for Luis Suárez gave Barcelona a comfortable cushion in the tie. • Roma have lost both their previous UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, the most recent of which came a decade ago. The Giallorossi's only other last-eight tie, in 1983/84, also featured their sole aggregate win at this stage. • Barça went on to the semi-finals for six years running between 2008 and 2013, although their last two campaigns – and three of the last four – have ended at this stage. • The Italian club have now lost two of their five fixtures against Barcelona – a 6-1 reverse at the Camp Nou the last time the teams crossed paths two seasons ago and this first leg. Previous meetings • The teams were last paired together in the 2015/16 group stage, when they drew 1-1 in Italy. Luis Suárez's 21st- minute opener was cancelled out by a spectacular Alessandro Florenzi goal ten minutes later to earn Roma a point. • The line-ups at the Stadio Olimpico on 16 September 2015 were: Roma: Szczęsny (De Sanctis 50), Florenzi (Torosidis 85), Manolas, Rüdiger, Digne, Nainggolan, De Rossi, Keita, Iago Falqué (Iturbe 81), Salah, Džeko. Barcelona: Ter Stegen, Sergi Roberto, Piqué, Mathieu, Alba, Busquets, Rakitić (Rafinha 61; Mascherano 65), Iniesta, Messi, Suárez, Neymar. • Barcelona were comfortable winners in the reverse fixture in Spain, Suárez and Lionel Messi each scoring twice with Gerard Piqué and Adriano also on target in a 6-1 home success. Edin Džeko, who missed a late penalty, got a consolation for Roma in added time. • The clubs' other meetings came in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League second group stage, starting with a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou, where Patrick Kluivert levelled a Christian Panucci goal. • Roma won the return 3-0 with Emerson, Vincenzo Montella and Damiano Tomassi scoring. Barcelona still won the group, with Roma eliminated in third place. • The teams in Rome on 26 February 2002 were: Roma: Antonioli, Cafu, Panucci, Samuel, Zebina, Lima, Emerson, Candela, Totti (Cassano 87), Delvecchio (Montella 46), Batistuta (Tommasi 72). Barcelona: Reina, Puyol, Christanval, De Boer, Sergi (Xavi 78), Cocu, Motta (Overmars 65), Luis Enrique (Rochemback 82), Gerard, Rivaldo, Kluivert. It was Roma's fourth penalty failure in all competitions this season after Perotti (two) and Džeko; despite Grégoire Defrel's successful spot kick against Benevento on 11 February, the Giallorossi have missed four of their last six penalties. • Džeko missed a penalty in the defeat against Torino FC on 20 December, his third consecutive failure from the spot for Roma. • Cengiz Ünder scored his first Roma goal in the 1-0 win at AC Chievo Verona on 4 February; the 20-year-old Turkish forward now has six in his last nine appearances for the club, and scored in Turkey's 2-2 draw with Montenegro on 27 March. • Radja Nainggolan had been out since suffering a thigh injury against Bologna FC on 31 March but returned at the weekend. Cengiz Ünder missed that Bologna game, also with a thigh problem, and has not featured since. • Rick Karsdorp has been sidelined since October and has undergone an operation following his second serious knee injury of the season. Barcelona • Sergi Roberto is a booking away from a ban. • Barcelona are the only team still unbeaten in this season's Liga (W24 D7); they won 3-1 at home to CD Leganés on Saturday, Lionel Messi scoring all their goals with his third league hat-trick of the season. • Messi had scored in eight consecutive Barcelona games before drawing a blank in the first leg, and now has 12 goals in his last ten matches. He got his 600th career goal for club and country against Atlético Madrid on 4 March. • Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 38 Liga games (W31 D7), equalling the all-time record set by Real Sociedad de Fútbol between 1979 and 1980 (W21 D17). • Barcelona have won only one of their last four away games, drawing the other three. • Since losing 2-0 at Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup on 16 August, Barcelona's away record is W14 D9 L1. They have scored in all but four of their 25 away games this season, drawing 0-0 at Juventus and Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League group stage and losing at Madrid and RCD Espanyol (0-1) in the Copa del Rey quarter- final first leg on 17 January, and have kept 14 clean sheets. • Only five of Barcelona's 79 goals in this season's Liga have come in the first 15 minutes. • Luis Suárez has eight goals in his last 12 matches for club and country. His first-leg goal against Roma was his first in the UEFA Champions League since 8 March 2017; his last 11 goals in the competition have come at the Camp Nou. • Paco Alcácer got his first Liga goal since 4 November in Barcelona's 2-0 defeat of Athletic Club on 18 March. • The Espanyol loss was Ernesto Valverde side's first defeat in all competitions since the Spanish Super Cup second- leg loss at Real Madrid. The Blaugrana's record since that Madrid loss is W36 D11 L1. • Sergio Busquets (out since 14 March, metatarsal) and Nélson Semedo (out since 24 February, hamstring) returned from injury in the first leg, although Busquets missed the Leganés match. • Barça will play Sevilla FC at the Estadio Metropolitano, home of Atlético Madrid, in the Copa del Rey final on 21 April. Barcelona have won the trophy in the last three seasons.

14 AS Roma - FC Barcelona Tuesday 10 April 2018 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Stadio Olimpico, Rome Head coach Eusebio Di Francesco Date of birth: 8 September 1969 Nationality: Italian Playing career: Empoli FC, AS Lucchese-Libertas, Piacenza FC (twice), AS Roma, AC Ancona, Perugia Calcio Coaching career: SS Virtus Lanciano 1924, Pescara Calcio, US Lecce, US Sassuolo Calcio (twice), AS Roma • A pacy winger known as 'Turbo', Di Francesco came through Empoli's youth system, making his Serie A debut in 1987/88. His career really took off at Piacenza between 1995 and 1997, when he earned himself a move to Roma. Transformed into a by Zdeněk Zeman, he spent four seasons at the Stadio Olimpico, winning the 2000/01 Scudetto although he played only five games that campaign. • Having retired in 2005 after two more seasons at Piacenza and spells with Ancona and Perugia, Di Francesco – who won 12 caps for Italy – spent a year as a Roma director but the lure of coaching proved strong; that new venture began in his native Abruzzo, first with a brief stint at Lanciano before two campaigns with Pescara. • Was appointed Lecce coach ahead of 2011/12 for his first Serie A experience, though it proved brief as Di Francesco was sacked after just 13 matches with his side bottom of the table. • Dropped back into Serie B the following season; a huge Zeman fan, Di Francesco – named after Portuguese legend Eusébio – had a brilliant start with Sassuolo using his mentor's 4-3-3 system and led the team from the Modena area into Serie A for the first time. • Di Francesco, whose son Federico plays as a winger for Bologna, coached Sassuolo in Serie A for four consecutive campaigns, although the first featured a short interruption as he was replaced for five games by Alberto Malesani, only to return and help the side avoid relegation. Known for his entertaining attacking football, Di Francesco steered Sassuolo to a first UEFA Europa League qualification by finishing sixth in Serie A in 2015/16 before replacing Luciano Spalletti as Roma coach in June 2017.

Ernesto Valverde Date of birth: 9 February 1964 Nationality: Spanish Playing career: Deportivo Alavés, RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona, Athletic Club, RCD Mallorca Coaching career: Athletic Club (twice), RCD Espanyol, Olympiacos FC (twice), Villarreal CF, Valencia CF, FC Barcelona • Known as 'Txingurri' – or worker ant – as a player, former striker Valverde scored 44 goals in 170 appearances over a six-year stay with Athletic. Had previously helped Espanyol to a third-place Liga finish in 1987 and an appearance in the following season's UEFA Cup final, which they lost on penalties to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. • Began coaching career in Athletic's youth ranks before stepping up to handle first-team affairs with the Basque club in 2003/04; guided the Leones to UEFA Cup qualification in his first term in charge. • Valverde again found himself losing a UEFA Cup final on penalties in 2007 – this time as coach of Espanyol – with Liga rivals Sevilla FC emerging victorious in Glasgow. • In his first season outside Spain, steered Olympiacos to a Greek league and cup double in 2008/09 before signing a one-year deal with Villarreal in June 2009. Was sacked the following January with the Yellow Submarine in tenth. • Rejoined Olympiacos in August 2010, lifting another championship at the end of his first campaign. Added a second domestic double the next year but then stood down, taking the Valencia helm in December 2012 on a deal until the end of the season. Reappointed by Athletic in June 2013 and took them to fourth in the Liga in his first term back, winning the 2015 Spanish Super Cup with a 5-1 defeat of Barcelona – where he succeeded Luis Enrique as head coach in May 2017.
