t seems quite remarkable the only match Penrith have lost in their last 29 starts was the one that Imattered most. But the Panthers haven’t missed a beat in the opening 11 rounds of the 2021 Telstra Premiership suggesting there has been no grand final hangover.

Second-rower Viliame Kikau said the reason for their carefree style of play was due to the environment created by the players.

There are no egos.

“If you’re the highest paid player or the lowest paid player, everyone treats each other the same,” Kikau said.

“We have mutual respect for everyone and that’s the kind of culture we’re trying to build in this club and it shows in how we play.

“Everyone respects each other and everyone wants to work for each other.”

Ruthless is often an adjective used to describe the Panthers performances on game day, but that is the

result of everyone buying in to what they want to achieve.

“One of the main things that the coaching staff brought up was being ruthless not just when game day comes, but being ruthless in our preparation as well in how we train and how we present ourselves around here,” Kikau said.

“Come game day it’s second nature to us so we go out there and do it.”

The Panthers toughest challenge appears likely to come in the form of the Origin period in the next few months after they were largely unaffected in 2020.

But Kikau is confident their ‘next man up’ policy will reap the rewards.

“It’s going to show how resilient this club is because we’ve always had that next man up mentality,” he said.

“We lost some of our big players in the first few games, but the boys who took their place came in and gelled straight away.

“They’ve done the job.”

One player who could feature in the Origin discussion is centre who has been a revelation so far this season. Kikau has no doubt he has what it takes should need him to do a job for the .

“Burto is a natural footballer,” he said.

“He’s the type of player that comes into a team and does the job so it’s a matter of time for him to get that mention of playing rep games.”

LISTEN ABC, SYD / BNE, NRL Nation I didn’t think I would be saying this, but the Broncos come into this one on the LIVE BLOG LeagueUnlimited.com back of a massive win over the Sydney Roosters. Honestly. A 34-16 carve up. Amazing.

MATCH OFFICIALS The Storm continue on their merry way, with a clinical 2nd half against REFEREE Ashley KLEIN Canberra, turning a 12-10 halftime deficit into a 34-10 smashing. They just TOUCH JUDGES Dave MUNRO own this league. I’ve said it before, but sorry Penrith - you’re not even in their Chris BUTLER postcode (and I write this as the Panthers prepare to put 500 points on my NRL BUNKER Henry PERENARA hapless Bulldogs this weekend, but my comment stands). In team news, the Broncos “welcome” back Anthony Milford, who returns into the side at five-eighth, in a forced change to replace the suspended Tyson Match Stats Gamble. Albert Kelly moves to halfback.

HEAD TO HEAD: 49 MATCHES Herbie Farnworth comes back in, at the expence of Dale Copley in the centres, and Rhys Kennedy moves into the starting lineup to replace Matt Lodge, who MELBOURNE 35-13 (1 DRAW) is also suspended. BIGGEST WINS The Storm are going for their tenth straight win over the Broncos, with their 2002 R21 Brisbane 48-20 Olympic Park 10,308 most recent coming in Round 4 this year, a 40-6 dismantling at AAMI Park. 2005 R4 Melbourne 50-4 Olympic Park 12,149 Who to watch: For the Broncos, it’s more a perverse interest in seeing how MILESTONES Anthony Milford goes. Coen Hess returns and with Jordan McLean and the improving Shane Wright and Tom Gilbert will be expected to do the bulk of the Cowboys’ HEAD TO HEAD: 42 MATCHES heavy lifting. WARRIORS 22-20 (no draws) At QLD Country Bank Stadium: never met at this venue Upfront, the Warriors have no such problems where the only changes see Bunty Afoa and Ben Murdoch Massila drop back to the bench with Kane Evans and Jack Murchie named to start. LAST TEN: 5-ALL SEASON ROUND RESULT VENUE CROWD In what promises to be a high scoring Indigenous Round affair, if the Cowboys 2014 R3 Warriors 20-16 1300Smiles Stadium 12,738 can land on the front foot, then the likes of the in-form Scott Drinkwater and the 2015 R7 North Qld 28-24 1300Smiles Stadium 16,038 returning Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow are every chance of matching the threat posed 2015 R24 North Qld 50-16 Mt Smart Stadium 14,412 by their New Zealand counterparts. 2016 R24 North Qld 34-6 1300Smiles Stadium 15,676 2017 R20 North Qld 24-12 1300Smiles Stadium 16,080 As frustrating as it must be for both coaches, the propensity for both these sides to concede and accumulate points in large clumps makes this compulsive 2018 R5 Warriors 22-12 Mt Smart Stadium 25,600 viewing. 2018 R15 Warriors 23-16 1300Smiles Stadium 11,062 2019 R6 North Qld 17-10 Mt Smart Stadium 11,395 Last week, ’s side effortlessly put 16 unanswered points on the 2020 R5 Warriors 37-26 Central Coast 21 Knights. They then found themselves trailing after the break, but a timely 2021 R8 Warriors 24-20 Central Coast 3,692 second coming eventually eased them home.

BIGGEST WINS So too the Warriors, their victory over the Tigers broke a two game losing 1996 R18 Warriors 52-6 Mt Smart Stadium 14,600 streak but in conceding 26 points it was anything but a cruisy evening for Brown in the Warriors coaching box. 2012 R23 North Qld 52-12 1300Smiles Stadium 13,616 Who to watch: Despite crossing for only three tries this year, with 95 in 143 MILESTONES appearances, Kyle Feldt has one of the best strike rates in the NRL. Still to PLAYER MILESTONE NEEDS... earn a Maroons jumper, the classy winger put on a show against the Knights in North Qld (since 1995) 2000 goals 1 goal smashing his way through 10 tackles to make four line breaks. A season best 236 metres was the result, and is sure to have Queensland coach Paul Green screaming for more. Match stats courtesy of Reece Walsh hasn't had any trouble attracting favourable press across his first five outings. Last week the Tigers were clueless to his sparkling feet and mesmerizing passes. Just as valuable as the three try assists and one try was his last ditch try saving tackle to ice the match. Whether he’s down back or in the halves, the 18-year-old is sure to catch the eye.

Favourite: The Warriors have had the wood on the Cowboys winning four of the past five and enter this week’s clash as the narrow favourite.

The Tigers had a twenty-minute period where they were able to play with an extra man but their play struggled to add points as they were only able to add two penalty goals which would be of added concern to the fans and coaching stuff who are already Match Stats asking plenty of questions about the attack. A 78th minute try to James Tamou gave the Tigers a chance to win the game but the last play ended up with the HEAD TO HEAD: 39 MATCHES touch judge and the Warriors held onto the victory.
