Webster Bank ‘Drafted’ To Sponsor MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Game Game is slated for March 7 at 1 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport and will be broadcast on ESPNU
Waterbury, Conn., March 1, 2011 – Webster Bank, a leading New England financial institution, will be the presenting sponsor of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s (MAAC) Spark Energy Women’s Basketball Championship Game. The game is scheduled for Monday, March 7 at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn., beginning at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU. Webster Bank Chairman and CEO Jim Smith will present the championship trophy to the winning team.

Additionally, the MAAC has given us a great opportunity help raise much-needed funds for the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, a local charity whose purpose and programs align perfectly with Webster’s corporate giving priorities.” The Bridgeport Rescue Mission provides emergency food, shelter and clothing for the neediest people in the greater Bridgeport area.
For every Family Four-Pack purchased throughout the championships, Webster will make a $5.00 donation to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. A Family Four-Pack is $65.50 and includes four tickets (two adult, two child), four hot dogs, four sodas and four bags of chips. The MAAC was founded in 1980 by six charter members: the U.S. Military Academy, Fairfield University, Fordham University, Iona College, Manhattan College and Saint Peter's College. Competition followed one year later in the fall of 1981 with members competing in the sports of men's cross country and men's soccer. On January 2, 1982, Army traveled to Iona for the first MAAC men's basketball game and the MAAC story had begun.
Today, Conference members include: Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Loyola University Maryland, Manhattan College, Marist College, Niagara University, Rider University, Saint Peter's College, and Siena College.
