Esquivias Assistant National Statistician National Censuses Service ISSN 0117-1453 FOREWORD The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) in August 2015 primarily to update the country’s population and its demographic characteristics, such as the size, composition, and geographic distribution. Report No. 3 – Population, Land Area, and Population Density is among the series of publications that present the results of the POPCEN 2015. This publication provides information on the population size, land area, and population density by region, province, highly urbanized city, and city/municipality based on the data from population census conducted by the PSA in the years 2000, 2010, and 2015; and data on land area by city/municipality as of December 2013 that was provided by the Land Management Bureau (LMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Also presented in this report is the percent change in the population density over the three census years. The population density shows the relationship of the population to the size of land where the population resides. -

Estimation of Local Poverty in the Philippines November 2005 Republika ng Pilipinas PAMBANSANG LUPON SA UGNAYANG PANG-ESTADISTIKA (NATIONAL STATISTICAL COORDINATION BOARD) http://www.nscb.gov.ph in cooperation with The WORLD BANK Estimation of Local Poverty in the Philippines FOREWORD This report is part of the output of the Poverty Mapping Project implemented by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) with funding assistance from the World Bank ASEM Trust Fund. The methodology employed in the project combined the 2000 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), 2000 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2000 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) to estimate poverty incidence, poverty gap, and poverty severity for the provincial and municipal levels. We acknowledge with thanks the valuable assistance provided by the Project Consultants, Dr. Stephen Haslett and Dr. Geoffrey Jones of the Statistics Research and Consulting Centre, Massey University, New Zealand. Ms. Caridad Araujo, for the assistance in the preliminary preparations for the project; and Dr. Peter Lanjouw of the World Bank for the continued support. The Project Consultants prepared Chapters 1 to 8 of the report with Mr. Joseph M. Addawe, Rey Angelo Millendez, and Amando Patio, Jr. of the NSCB Poverty Team, assisting in the data preparation and modeling. Chapters 9 to 11 were prepared mainly by the NSCB Project Staff after conducting validation workshops in selected provinces of the country and the project’s national dissemination forum. It is hoped that the results of this project will help local communities and policy makers in the formulation of appropriate programs and improvements in the targeting schemes aimed at reducing poverty. -

The projected costs have been shown to be commonly underestimated while forecasted demand, overestimated. In this research, an ambitious project in the Western Visayas Region is assessed. The Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge Project intends to connect the islands via inter-island bridges that span a length of approximately 23 km. In this study, the PGN project is placed in the distribution of previously completed projects of the same scale and lessons are drawn from their experience. Moreover, Reference Class Forecasting is tackled in order to improve risk assessment in transportation infrastructure project proposals. If project proponents wish to reduce the level of risk from 50% to 20%, then a 12.4 billion to 29.7 billion Peso increase in the proposed budget should be added in order to avoid cost overrun. Key words : Forecast Inaccuracies, Reference Class Forecasting, Cost Underestimation 1. INTRODUCTION The Philippines is a developing country which needs to make an efficient use of its resources. According to the Department of Budget and Management of the Philippine government, a total of 213.5 billion pesos or approximately 10% of the 2.265 trillion 2014 national budget is allocated to the Department of Public Works and Highways. -

Binanog Dance
Gluck Classroom Fellow: Jemuel Jr. Barrera-Garcia Ph.D. Student in Critical Dance Studies: Designated Emphasis in Southeast Asian Studies Flying Without Wings: The Philippines’ Binanog Dance Binanog is an indigenous dance from the Philippines that features the movement of an eagle/hawk to the symbolic beating of bamboo and gong that synchronizes the pulsating movements of the feet and the hands of the lead and follow dancers. This specific type of Binanog dance comes from the Panay-Bukidnon indigenous community in Panay Island, Western Visayas, Philippines. The Panay Bukidnon, also known as Suludnon, Tumandok or Panayanon Sulud is usually the identified indigenous group associated with the region and whose territory cover the mountains connecting the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz and Aklan in the island of Panay, one of the main Visayan islands of the Philippines. Aside from the Aetas living in Aklan and Capiz, this indigenous group is known to be the only ethnic Visayan language-speaking community in Western Visayas. SMILE. The Philippines has over a 1000 marine protected areas (MPAs) throughout the country, however the combination of increasing disasters and climate change underline the need to increase coastal habitat protection and community resilience. Five major constraints were identified that need to be addressed to achieve this: 1. Most MPAs are small, falling short of national, international and ecological targets. 2. MPAs are biased towards coral reefs, rarely including mangroves, which support ~72% of fish catches and provide vital coastal protection. -

The study used the descriptive correlational research design, researcher constructed questionnaires were used to gather data from 96 public elementary school teachers and their school heads by the researcher and trained enumerators.
