BASIC PHYSICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM 2010

1 Welcome to Peninsula Health

 This is a brief outline of Peninsula Health’s Basic Physician Training Program.  We take pride in our supportive, caring and educational environment.  Peninsula Health implements the RACP PREP program.

2 Bayside/Peninsula Consortium

 Peninsula Health is a member of the Bayside/Peninsula Consortium. Members include:  Peninsula Health  Frankston Hospital  Rosebud Hospital  Golf Links Road Rehabilitation Hospital  Alfred Health  The Alfred  Caulfield Hospital  Sandringham Hospital  Calvary Health  Bethlehem Hospital  Mildura Hospital  Goulburn Valley Health (Shepparton) 3 Peninsula Health

 Peninsula Health is made up of 4 major programmes – these are:  Acute Health  Psychiatry  Aged Care and Rehabilitation  Peninsula Health  The Acute Health programme centres around Frankston Hospital, 390 beds, and Rosebud Hospital, 77 beds.  Frankston Hospital comprises well developed Divisions of Medicine and , Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General Practice, Psychiatry, Critical Care, Anaesthesia, Radiology and Pathology. There are multiple consultants in each Division and appropriately designated ward and diagnostic areas.

4 Basic Physician Program

 Coordinated through the Department of Medicine at Frankston Hospital 9784 7250.  In addition to Peninsula Health’s educational programs, as members of the Bayside-Peninsula Consortium, all BPT’s have access to The Alfred’s written and components of the clinical FRACP programs.

BPTs rotate through the following rotations at Peninsula Health -all accredited by the RACP:  ,  Respiratory Medicine,  ,  ,  ,  Renal Medicine,  Infectious Diseases,  Haematology/,  Intensive Care,  General Medicine,  Perioperative Medicine,  Musculoskeletal and of the Elderly.  In addition one BPT (BPT2 or 3) rotates EACH TERM to Goulburn Valley Health and 2 (BPT2s or 3s) rotate to Alfred

• There is a 3 hour teaching programme for medical registrars Thursday afternoon 1400-1700.

13 SATURDAY PROGRAMS, MCQ ORIENTED Based at The Alfred with some components at Frankston Hospital and open to ALL Bayside-Peninsula Consortium BPTs (most components will be available on podcast, through the consortium website, to BPTs sitting the written.)

 RENAL.  RESPIRATORY.  CARDIOLOGY.  CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY & RESEARCH.  IMMUNOLOGY.  HAEMATOLOGY.

14 MCQ sessions with specialty consultants covering the following topics Based at The Alfred with some components at Frankston Hospital and open to ALL Bayside-Peninsula Consortium BPTs (most tutorials will be available on podcast, through the consortium website, to BPTs sitting the written.)

16 Long Cases  Each candidate scheduled for 2 cases weekly with a variety of senior consultants. Short Cases  Weekly program covering specialty short cases.

17 Weekends Open to ALL BPTs

 Neurology weekend at The Alfred.  Short cases weekend at Alfred.  Trial exam at Alfred/Frankston .

18 CLASSROOM CLINICAL TUTORIAL PROGRAM

Based at The Alfred with some components at Frankston Hospital and open to ALL Bayside- Peninsula Consortium BPTs (most tutorials will be available on podcast, through the consortium website, to BPTs sitting the clinical.)
