Job descriptions available Monday, January 14, 2013 in the Parks and Recreation Office or on the website. Applicants must attend a mandatory Skills Evaluation on Saturday, April 20, 2013, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Louden Nelson Community Center.

This evaluation includes an opportunity for candidates to be evaluated while participating in “hands-on” recreation experiences. Atten- dance is mandatory for all new applicants and any returning staff applying for promotions. Interviews will be April 22, 23, 24 and 25, 2013 by invitation only.

Mandatory in-service training and summer programs run June 17 through August 23, 2013. Recreation III and IV positions are required to attend additional training Saturdays, May 11 and May 18, 2013.

Little Guards & Junior Lifeguards Not a Learn-to-Swim Program SPRING PREPARATION All Junior Guard and Little Guard registrants MUST KNOW HOW TO SWIM to participate. Daily workouts include running, ocean swimming and training for beach competition events. The Junior Guard program requires participants to willingly swim a minimum of 200 to 300 yards in the open ocean, run a minimum of 500 yards and participate in paddling races and other beach competitions daily. The Little Guard program requires daily par- ticipation in entering and exiting through ocean waves and condi- tioning activities including calisthenics, running and beach games. Swimming areas are subject to change due to tide, weather and environmental conditions.

RECOMMENDED PREPARATION AND SKILL LEVELS Little Guards: Practice swimming 25 yards continuously and tread- ing water for one minute in the ocean. Passing Red Cross Swimmer Level 4 class and up is strongly encouraged.

Junior Guards: Practice swimming a minimum of 200 yards continu- ously (8 laps) and treading water for three minutes in the ocean. Passing Red Cross Swimmer Level 6 class is strongly recommended.
