FORMULA 3 MACAU GRAND PRIX – FIA F3 WORLD CUP in Austria, Schumacher Beat Robert Shvartzman FIA FORMULA 3 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP and Won the Weekend’S Opening Race ISSUE 2 | 2018 FORMULA 3 MACAU GRAND PRIX – FIA F3 WORLD CUP In Austria, Schumacher beat Robert Shvartzman FIA FORMULA 3 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP and won the weekend’s opening race. The German led the race, while Alex Palou put Shvartzman under pressure. Shvartzman held firm and finished second, Palou took the last podium place. Mick Schumacher scored his second win of the weekend in Race 2, moving up to the top in the points standings.Marcus Armstrong and Shvartzman finished second and third. Shvartzman scored his first win of the season in the final race of the weekend ahead of hard- charging Schumacher, who finished second. South African Jonathan Aberdien of Motopark finished third while Ticktum was fourth. Next up for the FIA F3 European Championship is the season finale at Hockenheim. In the Superstock race it was Dean Harrison, seventh at Macao last year, who clinched victory by just two-tenths of a second from Hickman. Long-time Macao competitor Conor Cummins, fifth at Macao last year, was third. Lee Johnston, eighth in last year’s Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, finished fifth. Harrison also set a new Superstock lap record on his way to victory. Built in 1997 and partially modified in 2007, this modern racetrack has always been a favourite of Touring Car drivers for its demanding layout that offers several opportunities to overtake and German fans enjoy the door-to-door battles between the cars. Last year, Mat’o Homola claimed his first TCR win in the first race, beating Dušan Borković and James Nash who finished second and third again in the second race that was won by Pepe Oriola. The SEAT cars dominated the event, as they filled the top-five places in both races. This year the TCR competitors will use the circuit’s older layout that includes the smoother “esses” at the end of the pit straight instead of the sharper left-hander. This is to limit the risk of a pile up at the start and to favour overtaking manoeuvres. Track activity will be concentrated into two days: two Free Practice sessions and the Qualifying on Saturday, with both races on Sunday. From products developed through these activities to the establishment of the GR Garage, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s motorsports activities have been promoted as a comprehensive method of increasing numbers of car fans. At last month’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, we unveiled the new “Supra,” which is set to become the first global model in the GR series line-up. The new Supra incorporates the knowledge and know-how that TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has accumulated thus far, and has been developed with the goal of enabling customers to fully experience the joy of driving. We have positioned the new Supra as our flagship model and, by feeding back knowledge gained through motorsports activities into the development of new products, we intend to further expand the GR series line-up. In 2018, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing achieved the long-desired goal of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and also secured the WRC manufacturers’ title, demonstrating that the challenges we have embarked on are leading to concrete results.
