Project Upkar – Talasari Taluka Tribal Area Upliftment

Talasari is a Taluka (sub division) of Thana District of Maharashtra State and inhabited by scheduled tribes known as Worli & Konkani. There are 27 villages with a population of 1.5 lakhs. It lies on NH-8 between Mumbai and Ahmedabad and is approximately 80 km. from Mumbai.

The population is generally very poor and people cannot afford to go for 10+2 or colleges and therefore low literacy area are quite large. Though great efforts has been made by the State Government to bring up their standard of living but only about 30% literacy has been achieved. This is perhaps because of lack of spiritual awakening.

Sant Nirankari Mandal has made a great contribution in this area by establishing satsang bhawan in all villages and awakening them spiritually. This has led to a great sense of humility, love and service. Sant Nirankari Mission wants to awaken them educationally, socially and provide them sufficient medical cover also bring to them importance of good and hygienic and sanitation condition. This way raise their standard of living. We have worked out a package for their improvement taking into consideration the existing government facilities.
