Emergency Action Plan (Tier- I) Emergency Action Plan for IDAMALAYAR DAM MAY 2020 Emergency Action Plan (Tier- I) Idamalayar Dam Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. DOC No. KSEBL_EAP_22_IDAMALAYAR _R1 May 2020 i Emergency Action Plan for IDAMALAYAR DAM MAY 2020 IDAMALAYAR DAM (KL29VH0036) DISCLAIMER This is a Tier I EAP document prepared based on the Dam Break Analysis carried out using digital elevation model (DEM) derived from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) global digital surface model (DSM) dataset with a horizontal resolution of approximately 30meters (1 arc-sec). Every effort has been taken to estimate the severity of flooding and inundation areas likely to be affected due to the failure of Idamalayar Dam. These estimates are based on available primary and secondary data. Every effort has been made to foresee varied emergency possibilities and develop appropriate notification procedures for timely rescue and relief operations. However, implementation of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) involves many agencies, who are required to work in a coordinated manner to reduce the consequences of the emergency triggered by the dam site condition. Effectiveness of the rescue and relief operations depend on many factors including the adequacy and accuracy of the estimation of the severity of flooding, coordinated efforts of all the agencies involved in rescue and relief efforts and availability of facilities like power, telephones, road communications, etc. EAP Developer may therefore, not be held responsible for the efficacy of the EAP. BENJOY C JOY | Dr. Sheeja K P Participatory Regionalism leading to Sustainable City Design- a case of Urban Water Metro, Kochi Sustainable development through participatory regionalism a case of emerging integrated water transport network of Kochi. Regions are tied to each other by road, rail and water transportation networks. Every region has an identity by collective consciousness. When regions are made accessible they become hot spots of conservation. Kochi is an estuarine city. The arrival of the Kochi water metro service brings hopes to the islanders of the Kochi city region. Kadamakudy panchayat and Cheranellur panchayat are two such panchayats having a set of ten islands. This set of ten islands share a common history, religion, festivals and traditions. The islands Valiya Kadamakudy, Cheria Kadamakudy, Kothad, Moolampilly, Chariyam thuruthu, Pizhala, Murickal, Pulikkappuram and Chennur form the Kadamakudy panchayat. The islands South Chittoor and Koren kottai along with Cheranellur constitute the Cheranellur panchayat. These islands were initially occupied by fishermen, farmers and potters mainly from the Latin Christian and Luso Indians community. Chittoor palace constructed by the erstwhile king of Cochin royal family was the summer palace. The king travelled from the hill palace a.k.a the winter palace to the summer palace in boat. This shows how water transportation was a crucial component in those days. Then schools and hospitals were built on these islands thereby adding more housing stock to this place. Due to the Coastal Regulation Zone restrictions and Kerala land utilization order preventing reclamation of wetlands no new developments are happening on these islands. Kettukalakkal festival is the harvest festival of Kadamakudy panchayat.
