    2020 Annual Praying Working Report CAMP Faithfully Diligently ALEXANDER MACK From the Executive Director Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.† Dear Friends of Camp Mack, We have all had a difficult year. Some of us lost friends and loved ones; others experienced isolation and the loss of community; and many faced financial difficulties. For Camp Alexander Mack, we have had to deal with all three. This reminder from 1 Thessalonians has been our way to find joy and purpose during uncertainty and anxiety about the future of this ministry. Cory Anderson1 OSU Presidential Fellow and Doctoral Candidate in Rural Sociology School of Environment and Natural Resources The Ohio State University Abstract: I define the plain Anabaptists by answering two essential questions: “Who are the plain Anabaptists” and “What are the plain Anabaptists?” In asking “Who are the plain Anabaptists?” I investigate several dimensions of identity. First, I trace the history of seven religious traditions within Anabaptism: the Swiss Brethren/Mennonites, the Low German/Russian Mennonites, the Hutterites, the Amish, the Brethren, the Apostolic Christian Churches, and the Bruderhof. Second, I explore three categories of people in each group—mainline, conservative, and Old Order—describing the last two as “plain.” Third, I explore scales and indices on which plainness is measured, as well as other measures of who the plain Anabaptist people are. In asking “What are the plain Anabaptists?” I define several ways social scientists conceptualize and describe the plain Anabaptists. I organize the sundry definitions and frames under three categories: the plain Anabaptists as a religious group, as an ethnicity, and as a social system. They affirm the genius of Brethren polity to creatively hold corporate and ecclesial natures of the church together in collaborative partnership. Instead of concluding that the 2010 bylaws superseded 1968 polity regarding the authority of the Annual Conference officers in signing documents and calling meetings to deal with emergencies, it is the Leadership Team’s interpretation that we honor both the corporate responsibilities of the corporate board (Mission and Ministry Board) and the ecclesial responsibilities of the Annual Conference officers.

This mission, set forth in the Great Commission though never fully understood, may be defined as having an inner and an outer direction. The inner mission of the church is to nurture its members seeking ever to bring them more and more to stature of maturity in Christ. The outer mission of the church is to be related, as God's instrument, to the problems and the needs of the world. These two major functions of the church are achieved to the extent that they are undergirded with stewardship of time, talent, and material resources. The congregation is a basic unit of the church at work in the world. Servants of the Lord must be alert to the needs and the opportunities about them. They must make ministry relevant to the changing times and should always be creative in communicating the Word and the love of God. To these ends we, The Topeco Congregation, have developed a constitution and by-laws clearly defining the organizational structure and working procedures in harmony with Brotherhood (General Board) and District policy. A constitution is regarded as a statement of the fundamental principles of government adopted by the church. The by-laws are detailed rules and regulations which allow for the effective working of the congregation within its basic organizational structure.
