WELCOME

Welcome to the 2019 Word of Life Institute Missions Conference!

This year’s theme is Forward: God’s Mission in Motion with guest speakers, Todd Ahrend, Kris Stout, and Don Lough, Jr. God has called us to be a part in taking His Good News to all people. We are told in 2 Thessalonians 3:1, “Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the Word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you.” did not give us an impossible task to do. This world can be reached with the Good News of the , but it begins with YOU reaching your world for Christ.

The following schedule outlines the weekend activities. Our prayer is that these sessions would motivate each and every one of us to be more faithful in sharing the Gospel.

HELPING HANDS FOREIGN MISSIONS

In August 2002, Drs. Richard and Brenda Kowalske were in Cochabamba, , participating in a short-term volunteer missions trip with their church. God interrupted their plans and called them to full-time ministry while simultaneously giving them a vision for the initial ministry project—a Christian Complex that would serve as the base of operations for Word of Life Bolivia. They returned home to Georgia and immediately began to learn Spanish with the intention of moving to Bolivia. By early 2003, Helping Hands Foreign Missions was formed.

Uganda was another country where the Kowalskes ministered with their church. As the project in Bolivia started to come together, Richard and Brenda began taking volunteer teams to Uganda. The two countries— though very different and very far apart—were clearly the focal points of God’s direction for Helping Hands. The Village of Eden is the current project in Uganda.

After working in Uganda for several years, God showed Dr. K a vision for a children’s village located in the bush country. This village was to be a refuge for the most vulnerable children in the region—a place where they could live and learn in safety as part of a family. Richard and Brenda began sharing the vision for the Village of Eden in 2008. Today, Dr. K is in heaven, but his vision is a living, breathing reality in the bush village of Namuwombi, Uganda. Soon, 800 children and 100 widows will live there in safety and learn about the One True and Living God whom Dr. K served right up to his last day on earth.

Helping Hands is currently under the leadership of Kevin Ross, who is with us at this conference, and continues to expand around the world. The opportunities available with Helping Hands include Missions Trips, Medical Clinics, Disaster Relief, Child Sponsorship and “Fill-a-Bottle”. They have recently began a partnership with our children’s ministry in Atibaia, .

Our mission goal for this year is to fill and send 1,000 water bottles to kids who need them around the world.

MEET ISMAEL & MARTA

Ismael was born in Spain and has a Muslim background. His mother is from Spain and his father from Morocco. When he was five, his parents divorced, and he lived with his mother as a Muslim who was not practicing Islam. As a troublemaker at the age of twelve, he was sent to live with his father and began practicing Islam, even though going to the Mosque, following the laws and praying were not fulfilling him. He was sent back to his mother again and met new friends at school who began to talk to him about Jesus. Through this friend he was invited to volunteer at a camp and then came as a camper the next week. As a camper he saw more than a hundred young people who enjoyed reading the Bible and studying and worshiping God by their own choice! That week he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

Marta was blessed to grow up in a home where her parents were Christians who were active in their local church. At the age of thirteen, after a really difficult crisis of identity, she understood how great God’s love is, and she trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior. Two years later she was able to serve in an evangelistic campaign in a village in her home country of Spain with a missionary family. At that time God called her to serve full time in missions as well. At the age of eighteen she realized that her calling for missions was to Muslim people, and she was given the opportunity to take a trip into Morocco. She saw the hard work of missions in North Africa and the needs of the Muslim people. She returned, shared a video and talked to a group of people about the experience, including Ismael. God used that presentation to ignite Ismael’s heart for returning to Morocco to reach Muslim people for the Lord.

Ismael and Marta were married in June 2017 and were accepted as missionaries to Word of Life Spain with a focus on Muslim people in Spain and North Africa in November 2017. They are currently raising their support as they serve with our team in Spain and look forward to being used by the Lord to reach Muslims with the Gospel there and in North Africa. For the sake of their safety and that of their coworkers, we ask that their pictures and information not be shared at all on social media or in public areas.
