Wis.-Milwaukee Head Coach: David Moe (Texas Lutheran ‘86) Assistant Coaches: Wesley Book (Emporia State ‘08) Graduate Assistant: Austin Klumpe (McPherson ‘07) Student Managers: Lamar Wilbern and Blake Thornburgh PRONUNCIATION GUIDE Taylor Euler: U-Ler Adam Holthaus: Holt-house Matt Boswell: Boz-well Xavier Burnett: X-Zay-Vee-UR COach David MOE Things have come a long way since David Moe was named Emporia State’s head coach on March 27, 2001. He inherited a team that had gone 9-17 the previous year and had not won a home conference game since February of 2000. In just two years Moe was named the Wilson/MIAA Coach of the Year after leading the Hornets to a second place finish in the always tough conference and has taken ESU to five straight winning seasons. In the 2010-11 season the Hornets turned things around to win four straight and earn the sixth seed overall in the MIAA Tournament. In 2009-10, Moe guided a injury plagued Hornet team to an upset of second seeded Fort Hays State in the first round of the MIAA tournament. In 2008-09, despite being picked to finish eighth in the MIAA, Moe led the Hornets to an 18-10 record and third place finish in the MIAA. In 2007-08 the Hornets got their first MIAA Tournament win as they knocked off #1 seeded Southwest Baptist as the #8 seed. The Hornets made it the MIAA Tournament Championship before falling to Northwest Missouri. THE MOE FILE The Hornets opened the 2006-07 season with a record setting 16-game winning streak and moving as high as No. 8 Coaching Experience in the National Polls. That play early earned the Hornets a bid in the NCAA Division II National Tournament where 2001-Present they will play in the South Central Region, which will be the second trip for the Hornets under Moe, at Warrensburg, Emporia State, Head Coach Missouri. 2001-02 7-19 2002-03 16-12 The Hornets finished the 2003-04 season 22-6, ranked #22 in the nation and made their first ever appearance in the 2003-04 22-7 NCAA Division II national tournament. The 22 wins was a six game improvement on the floor for ESU over the 2004-05 16-12 previous year and an incredible 15 game turn around from the 2002 season. 2005-06 18-13 2006-07 21-8 In 2003-04, the Hornets went 14-4 in the MIAA to set a school record for conference wins in a season. ESU’s home 2007-08 14-16 court, William L. White Auditorium, rocked as the Hornets went 15-0 at home, including wins over nationally 2008-09 18-10 ranked Washburn and 2004 Elite Eight team Northwest Missouri. 2009-10 14-15 2009-10 15-13 Moe’s frantic pace has led to increased attendance at White Auditorium. After averaging between 1,100 and 1,500 Total 161-125 fans from 1993-2002, the Hornets drew over 2,300 fans per game the last two seasons and ranked 13th in the nation in attendance in 2005-06. The Hornets outdrew 137 NCAA Division I teams last season. 1993-2001 Colorado, Assistant Coach Moe is the 16th head men’s basketball coach and just the fourth coach since 1943 at Emporia State and has proven that hard work on the floor and good recruiting off it can lead to success. Hornets Brady Webb, Shawn Herrman 1992-93 and Wes Book have each been named MIAA Freshman of the Year under Moe and in 2003 ESU had it's first ever Philadelphia 76ers Assistant MIAA Player of the Year, Robbie Ballard. Coach At just 45 years of age, Moe has 15 years of experience at the NBA and NCAA Division I level. He had been an 1991-92 assistant at the University of Colorado since 1993. Prior to his stay in Boulder, Moe was an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets Philadelphia 76ers. Other NBA experience includes work for the Denver Nuggets and Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte Hornets Regional Scout Moe began his professional coaching career at Texas Tech from 1988-91. He was a graduate assistant at the University of Kansas when the Jayhawks won the NCAA National Championship in 1988 under then coach Larry 1988-91 Brown.
