Is It Just the Music? Towards an Understanding of Festival-Goers and Their Experience at UK Music Festivals
Is it just the Music? Towards an Understanding of Festival-goers and their Experience at UK Music Festivals by Alyssa Eve Brown PGCert, BA (Hons), FHEA A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment for the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Central Lancashire April 2019 i STUDENT DECLARATION FORM Concurrent registration for two or more academic awards I declare that while registered for the research degree, I was with the University’s specific permission, an enrolled student for the following awards: Post Graduate Certificate in Business and Management Research Methods Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Material submitted for another award I declare that no material contained in the thesis has been used in any other submission for an academic award and is solely my own work Signature of Candidate ______________________________________________________ Type of Award PhD__________________________________________________ School Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise ii Abstract Festivals are an adventure of the emotional and physical senses and can create unforgettable, exciting and thrilling memories of unfamiliar and unique experiences. With music festivals in particular, there is an additional emphasis on the chance to experience live music by often idolised musicians within a temporary community of shared musical interests. However, whilst a music festival may attract visitors through advertising an attractive and appealing line-up of popular acts, this far from guarantees a happy customer. There are many other elements that contribute to and impact upon the experience of the festival-goer (Morgan, 2008: 83). If these elements are managed well, this can result in benefits for both the consumer, through positive emotional and cognitive experiences, and for the organisation through repeat custom, recommendations and increased sales. -

Decision on Relevant Merger Situation and Substantial Lessening of Competition
Completed acquisition by LN-Gaiety Holdings Limited of MAMA & Company Limited Decision on relevant merger situation and substantial lessening of competition ME/6574/15 The CMA’s decision on reference under section 22(1) of the Enterprise Act 2002 given on 19 February 2016. Full text of the decision published on 7 April 2016. Please note that [] indicates figures or text which have been deleted or replaced in ranges at the request of the parties for reasons of commercial confidentiality. SUMMARY 1. LN-Gaiety Holdings Limited (LN-Gaiety) acquired MAMA & Company Limited (MAMA) on 6 August 2015 (the Merger). LN-Gaiety and MAMA are together referred to as the Parties. 2. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) believes that it is or may be the case that the Parties’ enterprises have ceased to be distinct and that the share of supply test is met. The four-month period for a decision, as extended, has not yet expired. The CMA therefore believes that it is or may be the case that a relevant merger situation has been created. 3. The Parties overlap in the ownership and operation of indoor live entertainment venues in Birmingham, Manchester and London, and the ownership and operation of live music festivals in the UK. The CMA assessed the impact of the Merger in these product and geographic frames of reference. 4. The CMA also considered whether the Merger gave rise to vertical effects where the merged entity could increase the price it charges for venues to rival promoters, increasing their costs and making them less competitive; and/or whether the Merger gave rise to conglomerate effects where the merged entity could foreclose rivals through a tying or bundling strategy. -
FM (British Band)
FM (British band) FM (referred to as FMUK in North America) are a British rock band. They have released nine studio albums to date. Three of those, Indiscreet, Tough It Out and 2015's Heroes and Villains reached the UK Albums Chart, whilst five of the band's singles made inroads into the UK Singles Chart. Career FM was formed in the summer of 1984 in London. Comprising the ex-Samson pair of bassist Merv Goldsworthy and drummer Pete Jupp, the Overland brothers – vocalist/guitarist Steve and lead guitarist Chris Overland (both formerly of Wildlife) and keyboardist Philip Manchester (also known as Didge Digital), the band initially wrote six songs which by December 1984 had helped them secure a recording contract with the CBS/Portrait label. That same month the band set off on tour in Germany with Meat Loaf. The first UK public appearance of FM (not to be confused with the Canadian band of the same name) was on Valentine’s Day in 1985 at London's legendary Marquee Club. The debut album, Indiscreet followed and their debut single "Frozen Heart" was heard in many venues during 1986. FM hit the road in Europe supporting Tina Turner, Foreigner, Gary Moore, Status Quo and Magnum, also opening for REO Speedwagon at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. At the year's end they accepted a spot with Bon Jovi on the UK leg of their Slippery When Wet Tour. When CBS folded the Portrait label, FM switched to Epic. The Overland brothers went to the United States to write with Desmond Child, returning with the hard rock anthem "Bad Luck". -
