Urban Oasis Fall 2018 Programs Urban Oasis Fall 2018 Programs BIRDING FIELD TRIPS IN ESSEX COUNTY Led by Dave Hall, Associate Naturalist Field trips are designed for ages 12 and up. Have you ever wanted to “bird watch” but didn’t know where to begin? Would you like to find some of the hidden gems in Essex County? Let New Jersey Audubon be your guide. Summer is the time to see, hear and learn about the species of birds that nest in Essex County. Walks encourage beginners and challenge experts. Registration is requested for all programs. Troy Meadows in East Hanover is an excellent place to encounter ducks, herons, and marsh birds, plus migrating passerines. Park at the Environmental Center and We will carpool to the trail head. Meeting Location: Essex County Environmental Center, 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068 Cost: $6 members, $8 nonmembers Montclair Hawk Watch Open House Thursday, September 20, 2019 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Facilitated by Dave Hall. Join NJ Audubon's official Hawk Counter in spotting and identifying hawks as they move through the ridges of the Watchung Mountains. Park along Edgecliff Road (just off of Bradford Avenue in Cedar Grove) and look for the pathway to the stairs. The stairway is steep, but worth the effort. Bring a hat, water and a folding chair. Meeting Location: Montclair Hawk Watch, 40 Old Quarry Rd, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009 Cost: FREE Birding in Essex County South Mountain Reservation Saturday, September 22, 2018 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM Led by Dave Hall. At the peak of the fall migration, we will search for passerines, raptors, and maybe a few waterfowl. Meet at the Turtle Back Zoo parking lot where we will carpool to various locations within the park. Meeting Location: South Mountain Reservation, Turtle Back Zoo, Northfield Ave, West Orange, NJ 07052 Cost: $6 members, $8 nonmembers Urban Birding in Essex County Branch Brook Park Thursday, October 11, 2018 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM Led by Dave Hall. Take a leisurely walk in this Olmstead-designed park in Newark. This is an amazing place for migrating birds including thrushes, wrens, waterfowl and more. Meet at the Cherry Blossom Visitor’s Center at the north end of the park. Meeting Location: Cherry Blossom Visitor’s Center, Branchbrook Park Drive between Mill St and Grafton Ave, Newark Cost: FREE Go Birding at Essex County Becker Farm Saturday, October 13, 2013 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM Led by Dave Hall. The woods and meadows at this former dairy farm attract an excellent diverstiy of southbound migrants in the fall. There is also the opportunity to climb up the ridge to overlook the Passaic River Valley. Meet at the Essex County Environmental Center and carpool to the entrance. Meeting Location: Essex County Environmental Center, 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068 Cost: $6 members, $8 nonmembers Essex County Grover Cleveland Park Birding Field Trip Thursday, October 18, 2018 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM Led by Dave Hall. This is a great time for woodland birds. We will visit this beautiful Essex County park and also explore a nearby reserve in Essex Fells. Meet at the tennis courts located on Brookside Avenue near Gould Place. Migrants might include many southbound birds, and some winter arrivals. Footing might be muddy, depending on the weather. Meet in the Stop & Shop parking lot. NJ Audubon has been granted access to New Jersey American Water reservoirs, one of the best places in Essex County for wintering waterfowl. We may catch a glimpse of hawks and perhaps a Bald Eagle. The core of the public-information mission of the Garden State Preservation Trust has been to document and illustrate achievements in conservation and preservation – with an emphasis on accomplishments at the municipal level. We measure this by acres preserved. But it is also importation to show grants for recreational development, historic site funding and the intact farms that have been protected. The bulk of the Annual Report focuses on all of this information. Of course, the statutory function of this Annual Report concerns GSPT financing, appropriations and agency operations. These are contained in the chapters which follow the Legislative District preservation tables. This is to be construed as the full annual report of the Garden State Preservation Trust for the 2013 Fiscal Year in compliance with P.L. 1999 C.152 section 8C-15. It is also intended to be a comprehensive summary of required financial reporting from FY2000 through FY2013, providing a full accounting of Garden State Preservation Trust activities since July 1999.
