“Elysium Epic is about extraordinary explorers using advanced imaging technologies to document the last wilderness on our planet.”

6 THE PREMIER EXHIBItION PORtFOLIO E L Y S I U M In February 2010, a team of 57 explorers inspired by the heroic spirit of Sir Ernest Shackleton, set off on an expedition to document photographically the world’s most precious wilderness - Antarctica. The route of the expedition loosely followed the footsteps of Shackleton’s legendary Endurance expedition of 1914. The primary objective of this photographic epic was to capture the splendour and fragility of the Antarctic through the lenses of some of the world’s most celebrated wildlife image makers in a perspective that no one has ever seen before.

The Antarctic and Southern oceans are the engine rooms of this planet’s climate, critically important to maintaining all life on earth. But the Antarctic is now under severe threat: global warming caused by rising levels of greenhouse gases is causing the Antarctic ice cap and shelf to melt at an alarming rate.

Embargoed for two years, the finest of the 20,000 pictures captured in 2010 are now encapsulated into an exquisite limited edition fine art volume, and will be showcased in a premier exhibition as a tribute to Shackleton on the centennial anniversary of the 1914 Endurance expedition. We hope the images of Elysium Epic will inspire greater care for our oceans and preserve the pristine beauty of the Antarctic for generations to come.
