GOVERNOR’S SECRETARIAT ARUNACHAL PRADESH ITANAGAR PRESS RELEASE Shri Pema Khandu sworn-in as the Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu has been sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh in a magnificent function at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre, Itanagar on 29 th May 2019. The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to him. The Governor, in exercise of the powers, conferred on him by article 164 (1) of the Constitution of India, appointed Shri Pema Khandu to be Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Shri Chowna Mein, Member of Legislative Assembly was also sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of the State on the occasion. In exercise of the powers conferred on him by article 164 (1) of the Constitution of India and on the advice of the Chief Minister, the Governor appointed Shri Chowna Mein as the Deputy Chief Minister and administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to him. The Governor also administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shri Wanki Lowang, Shri Honchun Ngandam, Shri Kamlung Mossang, Shri Alo Libang, Shri Bamang Felix, Er. Tumke Bagra, Shri Mama Natung, Er. Tage Taki, Er. Taba Tedir and Shri Nakap Nalo. First Lady of the State, Smt Neelam Misra, Chief Minister of Assam Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Tripura Shri Biplab Kumar Deb, Chief Minister of Manipur Shri N Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Nagaland Shri Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Meghalaya Shri Conrad Sangma, NEDA Chairman and Senior Minister of Assam Shri Hemanta Biswa Sarma and both Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from the Arunachal Pradesh Shri Kiren Rijiju and Shri Tapir Gao were present on the occasion amongst others. Units are aware that AIEBA has taken up the matter with the Finance Minister and the GST Council for exempting Mediclaim policy premium paid by the retirees from the purview of GST. The matter has been taken up with IBA who have also represented to the Government not to levy GST on the premium. Since the exemption can be given only by the GST Council, we had asked all our State Federations to contact the respective GST Council Members from their States to follow up the matter and to take up the issue in the next meeting of the GST Council. Today, in Chennai, we met Shri D. Jayakumar, Hon. Minister for Personnel & Administrative Reforms, Govt. of Tamilnadu who is the Member of GST Council representing Tamilnadu Government. We submitted a copy of our letter to Finance Minister and explained the issue in detail. He was appreciative of the reasonableness of our demand and assured to write to the GST Council to discuss the issue. He also assured to pursue the matter in the GST Council meeting. He suggested that we should meet other members of the GST Council in this regard so that the issue gets some momentum.

Mishra (Retd.) attended the 33 rd Statehood Day celebration of the State at Itanagar on 20 th February 2019. The Governor unfurled the national flag and took the salute from the Guards of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that statehood paved way for speedy development. Today, the central government under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has special focus and consideration for the development of the State of Arunachal Pradesh. Without blaming the past government for the lapses, the CM said, “12 years is too long. However, today the work has begun and we hope that the college will shape in the next two years and will be able to benefit the students of the district.” He lauded the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui for his clarity in taking decisions, which has ensured intervention in the education department for overall good of the State. “He (Rymbui) is not a normal politician, he will tell black is black and white is white, unlike others who may confuse you. In 2018, the “Jackfruit Mission” was launched in the State and is being implemented by the Directorate of Food Processing, Government of Meghalaya. Through the programme, the Government is supporting the farmers engaged in jackfruit plantation and is providing training and other support to leverage their activities by connecting them with market linkage. Speaking at “Nano Jackfruit Entrepreneurs” event at College of Community Science, the Chief Minister said that with jackfruit grown abundantly in the state, the jackfruit mission was launched with a view to create livelihood, value chain, etc. “The mission will be a game-changer as the demand for jackfruit products in the international market are very high”, he said. Lauding the efforts of the entrepreneurs, the Chief Minister said that the State Govt. will provide help to the nano entrepreneurs to take the mission forward thereby bringing the benefits of jackfruit to the people.
