Tajikistan Market Situation Update, # 31 9-13 Aug 2021

Highlights: This graph analyses the average change in price of a food basket in the nine monitored markets. The food basket ΠIn the nine market that were assessed across , the monitored food items were found to be generally available. The markets were open and comprises of wheat flour (first grade), potatoes, onion, accessible to customers. milk, eggs, vegetable and cotton oil, beef, mutton and rice.

 Compared to the previous week, the average prices of most monitored food items remained stable in majority of markets in the current reporting period. However, prices of onions and potatoes increased by 31 percent and 20 percent respectively in market. Potato price also increased in 220 Murghob market of GBAO region by 17 percent compared to last week. The main reason given by traders was reduction in supply of these commodities in 217,2 these markets. Carrot price decreased by 6 to 38 percent while cabbage prices saw a drop in the range of 8 to 33 percent. m o S

J 186,5  Compared to July average prices, the price of onion increased in most monitored markets in the current reporting period owing to decreased supply. T 180 Onion price increase was highest in Dushanbe market (62%) followed by Khorog (35%). Potato prices also increased appreciably in some markets compared to last month including Dushanbe, Khorog, and Murghob.

 In the current reporting period, the price of petrol and diesel increased slightly in most markets compared to last week. About the Market Update : WFP Tajikistan has been monitoring commodity prices in markets across the country, especially to assess effects of COVID-19 on the population’s food security situation. Markets monitored include six major markets in Murghab and Khorog in GBAO region, Khujand in , Bokhtar in , Gharm in DRS region, and Dushanbe, and three minor markets, Isfara (Sughd), Istaravshan(Sughd), and Kulob(Khatlon). The focus is on the main commodities that are consumed by the population of the country. Prices are collected the start of each week. For each commodity, multiple traders are interviewed and the average prices is recorded.
