HOUSTON FOOTBALL HOUSTON FOOTBALL 2013 SEASON COACHING STAFF THE COUGARS A new era for Houston Athletics began to take shape on Feb. 8, 2013 when ground was officially broken on the Houston Football Stadium. Set to open in August of 2014, the state-of-the-art stadium will hold at least 40,000 with premium seating for 5,000 and a state-of-the-art synthetic turf designed to host a multitude of events. With an exquisite view of the Houston skyline always visible in its northwest corner, the stadium will also house the Bert F. Winston Band and Performance Center on its east end. Designed by PageSoutherlandPage and the DLR Group, the stadium is being built by Manhattan Construction. They are also eager to do sampling along the local Wine Trail, especially the delicate peach wines made from local fruit. • The city is home to James Beard Foundation Award winners and SEASON REVIEW nominees. People come from around the Southeast to dine at chef- owned restaurants across the city. • Displaying more than 1,200 vintage and modern motorcycles and racecars and the largest collection of Lotus cars, Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum houses the largest collection of its kind in the world. The adjacent Barber Motorsports Park is considered the “Augusta of Motorsports,” referring to the quality of the world-class course and home of the Porsche Sport Driving School. • Bon Appétit named Birmingham’s Hot & Hot Fish Club among the BOWL HISTORY “Great Neighborhood Restaurants in the South.” • Birmingham’s role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s placed it at the center of the most significant domestic drama of the 4 20th century 2013 HOUSTON BOWL MEDIA GUIDE HOUSTON FOOTBALL MAPS & DIRECTIONS BBVA Compass Bowl History 2013 SEASON Started in 2006, the BBVA Compass Bowl is one of nine bowl games owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television. But as the only bowl in the country aligned with both the Southeastern Conference and the American Athletic Conference, the bowl is definitely one of a kind. Throughout the bowl’s history, it has COACHING STAFF produced an economic impact of more than $80 million for Birmingham. And, through the bowl’s partnership with the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, it has donated $200,000 to the Crippled Children’s Foundation. This money has gone to provide vital medical services to children in need. This year, the BBVA Compass Bowl will kick off at historic Legion Field on January 4, 2014, at noon central time and will be televised by ESPN. Currently home MVP: Andre Dixon - Connecticut to the UAB Blazers, Legion Field has hosted some of college football’s greatest games.
