LINK-UP Keeping Churches in Touch September 2018 LINK-UP Keeping Churches in Touch www.godalmingchurches.org From the Chair We want to have a greater presence This was a phrase used by Rev Maggie Stirling-Troy (Vice Chair of Churches Together) during the United Service (Worship@The Bandstand - actually at The Baptist Church due to the weather). She was talking about the two events at Christmas, the Winter Festival on 24 November (organised by the Town Council) and Christmas Together on 8 December (organised by a small - very small - group of dedicated CTiGD people. We worship together and work together, but we do need to pray together more and to Pray for Godalming. I have become aware of a group who is doing this, to pray against other groups who are not Christian. Not only should we worship together and work together we should pray together and have a greater presence in the Town. Michael Stubbs, Chair of Godalming and District Churches Together, [email protected] Events for your diary Below is a selection of the many events taking place during September 2018 and beyond. In fact, total entries were only slightly down on 2017, and there was a high quality of produce. Hopefully Farncombe’s gardeners won’t have to struggle quite so much next year! Fellowship group We have begun a new fellowship group and are proceeding with our service review, slowly but surely. www.farncombe.org.uk Godalming Baptist Church Ladies' breakfast, Saturday 22 September On Saturday 22 September we have a Ladies breakfast in the back room of The Jack Phillips (Wetherspoons) from 9:00 to 11:00. In the Wey Valley Circuit - to which we belong - we are delighted to welcome a new Superintendent and his wife - Rev Keith Beckingham and Hilary. Keith was previously Superintendent in the West Midlands and, further back, Hampshire, and his early ministry was in the Salvation Army. • Godalming Band Newsletter November, 2015
GODALMING BAND NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER, 2015 Dear Readers, I hope you enjoy this issue of the Newsletter about the Bands’ activities. The Youth Band has had an especially active year, as seen below. You will find here information about engagements, achievements, and a comprehensive report on the Senior Band’s recent trip to Joigny, as presented by Dominic Cleal. David Daniels, Editor CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter. 2015 has been a very busy and different year, especially for the Senior Band. Much of the early part of the year was spent preparing for the regional qualifying contest of the national brass band championships in March and for the Mayor of Waverley’s massed bands charity concert at Charterhouse in April. In addition to our usual summer events including an outdoor concert at King Edward’s School, Witley, much of our time and effort went into preparing for the Senior Band’s visit to Joigny, France in October. This visit was at the invitation of the ‘Harmonie de Joigny’, the wind band of the music academy in our French twin town, to celebrate their 150th anniversary. Now as the festive season approaches our Bands are busy preparing for the numerous local engagements as well as the joint annual Christmas Concert on Saturday 19th December, 2015. Thank you for your continued interest and support. We hope to see you and your friends and family at the United Church in Godalming on the 19th. Ray Pont, Band Chairman 1 A WORD FROM DAVID LOFTUS, YOUTH BAND MD As I write for this newsletter we are rapidly heading towards another very busy Christmas set of engagements.

  • LINK-Up Keeping Churches in Touch
June 2020 - LINK uP Keeping Churches in Touch www.godalmingchurches.org Message from the Acting Chair Thy Kingdom Come – 21 to 31 May “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses …to the ends of the earth. When he had said this… he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight… Then they returned to Jerusalem … and were constantly devoting themselves to prayer… When the day of Pentecost had come they were all together in one place... All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit... and that day about three thousand persons were added.” Acts 1, 2 As many of you will be aware, Thy Kingdom Come is an ecumenical call to prayer from Ascension to Pentecost, which this year runs from 21 to 31 May. This year, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it feels that there is a new urgency and sense of the Holy Spirit moving. In the words of Reverend Canon Chris Russell, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Advisor on Evangelism and Witness: Haven’t we sensed more than ever the longing for the Kingdom of God – where there is no pain or crying, no injustice or loneliness? Haven’t we longed for God’s ways to be seen in the world? Haven’t we been most moved by those who give their lives to serve all that the Kingdom of God stands for? We long for signs of the Kingdom. And as a church do all we can to serve that Kingdom.

This states that a landscape character assessment linked to criteria based policy approach should provide sufficient protection for these areas provided such designations are based on a formal and robust assessment of the qualities of the landscape concerned. Against this background, Chris Burnett Associates (CBA) were commissioned to undertake a review of the Surrey AGLV by the Surrey Planning Officers Association. (SPOA) The study commenced with a review of historic background. It established that the Surrey Hills AONB is closely linked with the designation of the AGLV. The first County Plan approved in 1958 showed the first AGLV area, which was a smaller area incorporating the North Downs escarpment and the area of Greensand Hills surrounding Leith Hill.
