No minimum number of entries is required to fill a class. The proper calling of the gaits shall be “walk, trot, and canter.” Judging is based 60% railwork and 40% on the individual workout. The top four riders must be worked individually; more may be worked at the judge’s discretion. The mandatory workout is “Trot a serpentine to the opposite end of the ring; return down the rail at a trot.” All riders must be registered with the UPHA. Saturday Afternoon 194 Saddle Seat Equitation Championship To be eligible, horses must have been entered, shown and judged in Class 102 or 111. Sunday Afternoon BAROQUE HORSE DIVISION USEF NON-RATED DIVISION Please use the NON-RATED entry form The term Baroque Horse describes a group of horse breeds, usually descended from and retaining the distinctive characteristics of a particular type of horse found in Europe during the Baroque era. Breeds to include Andalusian, Frederiksborger, Friesian, Ginetta, Kladruber, Lipizzan, Lusitano, Menorquin, and Murghese. Part breds also eligible. Copy of Registration papers required to compete.

    Sporthorse Type E.F.Elmer The most common question I have been asked from Curly breeders is this: "Is my Curly a Sporthorse TYPE?" That is the million dollar question that seems to be on so many minds these days. First, I hesitate to say that there IS a single type, per se. At least, I would argue that there are no hard and fast rules about a single type. On the contrary, there are several different sporthorse types, many with different talents and suitable for different sports to varying degrees. Sporthorse types: Baroque Warmblood Thoroughbred Baroque type This type of horse tends to be of a more compact build than the other types I will discuss here. Examples of this type are Andalusian and Lippizan horses. These breeds were bred specifically for dressage high school / collected movements. This is not to imply that these horses cannot do other movements well, but their 'specialty' tends to be in collection and airs above the ground. These horses tend to be the choice for some classical dressage enthusiasts who are more interested in the process of training a horse in classical dressage rather than competing in dressage shows. Horses of this type often do not have as much scope needed for showing, such as the ability to extend their stride in all gaits. However, I am NOT saying that breeds such as Andalusians cannot be competitive in the sporthorse world because they can be. My point is simply that the baroque breeds were bred to specialize in the collected & high school movements.

Abstammungsaufzeichnung/Angaben im Zuchtbuch: Angaben zum Pferd (gemäß VO (EU) 2016/1012 in Verbindung mit der DVO (EU) 2015/262) Die Identifizierung muss gemäß DVO (EU) 2015/262 erfolgen. Es sind mindestens folgende Angaben im Zuchtbuch zu machen: Rasse, Geschlecht, Name, UELN, Geburtsdatum, Geburtsort, Geburtsland, Farbe und Abzeichen, Kennzeichnung (Transponder und ggf. Rasse- und Nummernbrand), Abteilung und Klasse des Zuchtbuches, Name und Anschrift des Züchters sowie des Eigentümers oder des Tierhalters Angaben zu den genetischen Eltern und mindestens vier weiteren Vorfahrengenerationen (soweit vorhanden) Name, UELN, Geschlecht, Farbe und Abzeichen, Rasse, Kennzeichnung (Transponder und ggf. Rasse- und Nummernbrand), Abteilung und Klasse des Zuchtbuches, Name des Züchters 2. Kennzeichnung von Equiden Die Identifizierung und Kennzeichnung der Equiden erfolgt gemäß der DVO (EU) 2015/262. Zusätzlich wird für jedes Pferd der Rasse Deutsches Tigerschecke das Abzeichen- Diagramm im Equidenpass ausgefüllt. Zusätzlich zum Transponder können Fohlen am linken Oberschenkel einen Schenkelbrand (Zuchtbrand plus Nummernbrand) erhalten. 3. Zuchtziel Das Zuchtprogramm hat einen Zuchtfortschritt im Hinblick auf das definierte Zuchtziel und somit die Verbesserung der Eigenschaften der Rasse zum Ziel und umfasst alle Maßnahmen und Aktivitäten, die diesem Ziel dienlich sind. Gezüchtet wird ein umgängliches, charakterlich einwandfreies, unkompliziertes, nervenstarkes und zuverlässiges Pferd/Pony, das bestens für die Reit- und Fahrzwecke jeder Art geeignet ist.

The Arizona Futurity has seen some exciting moments, extraordinary achievements and valued memories over the past 43 years and 2017 promises to be no exception. The response from last year’s return to the Wendell Arena was nothing but positive, with comments such as “It felt like a County Fair atmosphere!” and “We loved viewing the show from the stalls!” and best of all “The glow of the full moon over our show horses was amazing!” Yes, there will be another full moon this year – so make your plans to attend! As always, friendship and hospitality will be at the forefront. Cold Stone Creamery will be serving their delicious ice creams during the Friday evening session and Susan Bauer and her art classes have again designed special one-of-a-kind championship trophies to ensure you will always remember the 2017 Arizona Futurity.     The Friesian horse and the Frisian horse The (re)invention and the historicity of an iconic breed JORIEKE SAVELKOULS The Friesian horse is iconic . This elegant, showy breed of horse sports a jet-black coat and thick, wavy mane and tail . Not only do these horses find their way from Friesland to breed enthusiasts all over the world, but even Hollywood is quite smitten 1. Whether as a Roman, Persian, Spanish or Medieval horse, the Friesian seems a keeper in Hollywood – never mind historical accuracy . On the other hand, the problem of historical accuracy persists in histories of the breed . Like many – if not most – breed histories, the history of the Friesian horse is distorted . The obvious question is to ask how it is distorted; the next might be to wonder why . Like the studbooks themselves, this distortion of history may well be a remnant of nineteenth- century notions of purity and heritage . This article will offer further insight into the history of the Friesian horse . The long nineteenth century (circa 1750-1914) was marked by great changes in Europe and overseas . The French Revolution, Industrial Revolution and Agricultural Revolution transformed the political, socio-eco- nomic and cultural landscape . A combination of state-formation and nation- building resulted in countries seeking to establish nationalist “us against them” mentalities . The process of modernisation and nation-state formation sparked a (re)invention and revision of tradition, heritage and history, which was expressed in all levels of society and included folklore, folk costume and national anthems 2. Frisian identity did not escape this trend: the popular Frisian sjees, a gig which seated a couple in traditional costume, is one such example .3 Nowadays, this two-wheeled carriage is closely associated with the Friesian horse .
