Amelia Earhart is one of the world’s most important aviators. She was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean by herself. Before this all pilots were men. She set many flying records including being the first female pilot to fly over the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 she wanted to be the first woman to fly around the world. On June 1st Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan, left Miami and started the 29,000 mile journey. The map below shows the beginning of their journey. Start point. On their way to Howland Island they faced terrible weather conditions, their fuel was low and radio updates could not be heard. They never made it to Howland Island.
