    ISVS e-journal, Vol. 6, no.2, March, 2019 Maintaining the vernacular in Rimetea and Roșia Montană: Politics and meaning Alexandra Florea & Mirjana Lozanovska Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. Abstract This paper describes succinctly the analysis of two villages, part of a larger research conducted in the region of Transylvania in Romania. It focuses on the relationship between signage and vernacular architecture, arguing that the text and images displayed on the facades of buildings throughout the village are intimately connected to the vernacular and often emphasizes its social, cultural and political past and present. In Rimetea, the signage connects the village, part of Romania after WWI, with Hungary, to which was politically connected since medieval times. In Roșia Montană, the signage supports a proposed mining project by making use of the stories of vernacular architecture. Moreover, this paper brings forth the importance of conducting architectural fieldwork complemented by research on the history and culture of those particular place. Such a methodology was employed for this research, making possible an in-depth analysis of the rural environment in the twenty-first century. The research focused on the built environment of five villages in the Transylvanian area of Romania, Eastern Europe (Figure 1), investigating the infrastructure and the state of public buildings, individual houses and public space. Rimetea and Roșia Montană, both villages with a predominantly vernacular architecture, distinguished themselves from the other case studies due to a large number of printed messages and signage displayed on particular buildings.

The paper represents an integrated and holarchical perspective on the spatial development policies and its component measures and projects related to the City of Alba Iulia, its area of influence and the all-encompassing County of Alba, Romania. The goal was to see how the development and management policies from all levels merge into a single strategic framework that might create a favourable basis for the sustainable growth of Alba Iulia and its area of influence. As this area surrounding the city is subjected to different hierarchical plans and programmes, some that are not properly correlated, it is extremely clear that this area and Areas of Influence in general need legislative stipulations made specifically for them and also a well-thought holarchical planning approach. Wells water should be checked periodically to determine if it complies with European standards, especially when these waters are used by the population. The aim of this paper is to assess the number of aerobic bacteria, nitrites and ammonium content for 7 location (Alba Iulia, Rosia de Secas, Cenade, Sancel, Spring, Ciugud, Ohaba) from Alba County, Romania. The results show that anthropogenic pollution affecting water quality from wells. The microbial growth varies between 42 CFU in source from Ohaba and 440 CFU in Ciugud. Starting from the nitrogen cycle, for the interpretation of the data a simple linear regression was performed. For all the casese, also a multiple regression was conducted to investigate the relationship between chemical parameters and the bacterial growth. A significant correlation between the microbiological growth and its nitrites and ammonium content was observed.
