For Vermonters it’s a way of life and a commitment to helping our neighbors through investing in our communities. That’s why the Vermont State Treasurer’s Office and lawmakers have worked closely with stakeholders to reauthorize and extend the work of the Local Investment Advisory Committee (LIAC) as well as the lending capacity of the State Treasurer’s Office to invest up to 10% of the State’s average cash balance for local investments in Vermont’s economy. We have made significant investments since our efforts started in 2012—over $32 million has been committed to local investments to date. Through the Vermont Economic Development Authority (VEDA), the Vermont Housing Financing Agency (VHFA), NeighborWorks of Western Vermont, the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC), Champlain Housing Trust, and other entities, millions of dollars have been invested in economic development, affordable housing units, energy efficiency, and renewable energy projects that are good for Vermont’s future. During the most recent legislative session, the Treasurer’s Office and the Vermont Community Loan Fund worked together to increase the lending capacity of the State Treasurer’s Office with the Loan Fund from $500,000 to $1 million to build off the successful investments to date.
