The Quakes have a two-game lead in the season series with the 66ers, and Rancho holds a 4.5 game lead in the South Division. Rancho’s chances of making the playoffs are slim, as they are eight back with 12 to play. NORTH W L PCT GB Fresno 71 37 .657 - SUNDAY NIGHT’S GAME: The Quakes erupted in a 19-9 offensive onslaught against the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Storm sent San Jose 67 41 .620 4 Nick Thwaits to the mound for the Sunday matchup, after he earned his first win against the Quakes back on Tuesday. However, this Modesto 59 49 .546 12 start was far different, as Thwaits lasted just 1+ innings against a Rancho offense that swung hot bats right out of the gate. Rancho Stockton 40 65 .381 29.5 started their scoring with a five-run outburst in the first inning. Sam McWilliams hit his 30th double on the season in the inning, and Alex De Jesus launched his 12th home run of the season to cap off the scoring. Rancho immediately surrendered a five-run frame to SOUTH W L PCT GB the Storm in the top of the second. The Quakes offense was undeterred as they scored three more in the bottom of the second, with Rancho Cucamonga 59 49 .546 - Ramos, McWilliams, and De Jesus all having RBI doubles in the inning. The Quakes offense was just warming up as they erupted for Inland Empire 53 52 .505 4.5 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sam McWilliams capped of his day with a grand slam in the inning, his second grand slam Lake Elsinore 47 61 .435 12 of the season. Rancho scored their final run of the game in the fourth inning, capping off 19 runs in just four inning for the Quakes Visalia 33 75 .306 27 offense. The game was reigned in after that, as only three runs would cross home after the fourth inning, and they belonged to the 2021 PLAYOFF STANDINGS Storm. The Quakes went on to win 19-9 and accumulated 20 hits in the contest. NORTH W L PCT GB MCWILLIAMS AND DE JESUS: Sam McWilliams and Alex De Jesus each had one of their best games of the season. Sam Fresno 71 37 .657 +4 McWilliams tallied six RBIs in the game before being pulled midway through the contest. Alex De Jesus had himself a 4-for-4 game at San Jose 67 41 .620 - the plate, including five RBIs of his own before also being pulled midway. These two combined for 11 RBIs and two home runs. Both Rancho Cucamonga 59 49 .546 8 McWilliams and De Jesus now have 12 home runs on the season. They are both looking up at Imanol Vargas, who leads the club with Modesto 59 49 .546 8 15 home runs since joining the team a few months ago. For last week’s efforts, McWilliams was named Player of the Week, the second Inland Empire 53 52 .505 12.5 time this season he’s nabbed the award. McWilliams smashed three homers with 11 RBIs and hit .347 over seven games. ** Top two teams qualify for 2021 playoffs, regardless of division AROUND THE FARM: The Great Lakes Loons won their Sunday matchup 6-2 against Fort Wayne, as Brandon Lewis blasted his SUNDAY’S SCORES 20th home run for the Loons this season. The Tulsa Drillers also took the Sunday victory 9-4 over the Springfield Cardinals. The San Jose 7 Visalia 1 Oklahoma City Dodgers were the only affiliate to lose on Sunday, as they were on the wrong side of a 4-1 score against the Albuquer- Modesto 6 Inland Empire 5 que Isotopes. OKC would rebound on Monday however, as they exploded for 16 hits in a 12-5 win over the Isotopes. Fresno 7 Stockton 1 DODGERS UPDATE: The Dodgers dropped the rubber-match of their series with the Giants on Sunday by a 6-4 final, before Rancho Cucamonga 19 Lake Elsinore 9 opening their series against St. Louis on Monday with a 5-1 win. The Dodgers are still a game back of the Giants, who beat Colorado, 10-5 on Monday night. TODAY PLAYOFFS? YES, PLAYOFFS!: At the beginning of the 2021 season, it was understood that there would be no playoffs across Visalia at Lake Elsinore, 5:35 PM the country for all of Minor League Baseball, due to the ongoing global pandemic. Major League Baseball will now implement a Stockton at San Jose, 6:30 PM “revised” playoff plan, allowing each league to crown a champion with a playoff series. The playoffs will be shortened to a single series, Fresno at Modesto, 7:05 PM that features the top two teams (by record), regardless of division. The top two teams in all of Low-A West currently reside up North, Rancho Cucamonga at Inland Empire, 7:05 PM where Fresno has a four-game lead over San Jose. The Quakes continue to be third in the playoff race, and are currently 12 games back of Fresno and 8 out of a playoff spot with 12 games remaining in the 120-game season. The 2022 season will see the league move to a TOMORROW’S GAMES 132-game schedule and the first-half and second-half winners of each respective division meet in the playoffs. Visalia at Lake Elsinore, 5:35 PM NICK NASTRINI: The Quakes will start the series by sending Nick Nastrini to the mound as the game one starter. Nastrini has Stockton at San Jose, 6:30 PM pitched well since joining the ball club after being drafted by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2021 draft our of UCLA. Nastrini Fresno at Modesto, 7:05 PM has allowed just on earned run on three hits over his first three starts with Rancho. Though, he has only lasted two innings at most Rancho Cucamonga at Inland Empire, 7:05 PM in any of his starts, Nastrini has totaled 14 strikeouts over those 5.2 innings. After displaying an impressive 12.9 strikeouts per nine innings in college, Nastrini’s strikeout arsenal has so far translated into early success at the Low-A level. 2021 QUAKES AT A GLANCE JOSE SALVADOR: The Inland Empire 66ers are calling upon Jose Salvador to take the hill in game one.
