Minnesota Twins Announce 2012 Schedule Home Opener at Target Field Slated for April 9 Vs

CONTACT: Chris Iles FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 612-659-3503 Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 Kevin Smith 612-659-3500 Minnesota Twins Announce 2012 Schedule Home Opener at Target Field Slated for April 9 vs. Angels MINNEAPOLIS – ST PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins today announced their preliminary regular season schedule for the 2012 season. The Twins will kick off their 52nd season on the road April 5 – 8 with a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (April 5, 7 and 8). Upon returning to Minnesota, the Twins will mark their third Opening Day at Target Field on April 9 with a game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Twins will play two more games against the Angels on April 11 and April 12 before hosting their first home weekend series against the Texas Rangers (April 13 – 15). The team’s 18-game interleague schedule includes trips to play at the Milwaukee Brewers (May 18 – 20), the Pittsburg Pirates (June 19 – 21) and the Cincinnati Reds (June 22 – 24). The Twins 2012 home interleague schedule features visits to Target Field by the Chicago Cubs (June 8 – 10), the Philadelphia Phillies (June 12 – 14) and the Brewers (June 15 – 17). Other home schedule highlights include a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox (April 23 – 25), a three-game series against the New York Yankees (Sept. 24 – 26) and a Memorial Day weekend homestand against the Detroit Tigers (May 25 – 27) and the Oakland Athletics (May 28 – 30). The Twins will close out the 2012 season on the road with a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays (Oct. 1 – 3). The Twins will play their American League Central Division rivals the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals 18 games each. The Twins will face all Central Division teams three series at home and three series on the road. Gateway Economic Development Corporation of Greater Cleveland (Gateway) was formed in 1990 by the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, for the purposes of financing, building, owning and operating the Gateway Sports Complex in downtown Cleveland. Gateway owns Quicken Loans Arena, as well as Progressive Field and surrounding common areas, including Gateway Plaza along Ontario Avenue. Gateway’s lease agreements with the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, as revised and extended in 2004 and 2007, facilitate Gateway’s ability to continue as a good steward of these two tremendous buildings, as it has been for a generation. The leases with the Indians and the Cavaliers require the teams to pay for operating and maintenance costs of their respective facilities, many of the capital repair costs, as well as all of the cost of operating the Gateway Corporation. Gateway’s responsibilities – pursuant to a budget agreed upon annually with the teams and financed by team rental payments - include common area maintenance, insurance, security, and oversight of the maintenance and capital repairs of the ballpark and the arena, ensuring that Gateway’s facilities are maintained to guarantee their long-term viability.
