Year Event 1857 (22nd Feb) Birth of t Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell. 1899 Boer War declared, Baden-Powell invested in Mafeking. Published “Aids to Scouting”. 1900 Mafeking relieved May 17th . Baden-Powell was promoted to Major-General by the Queen. 1903 Become inspector General of Cavalry. 1907 (1-9th August) Baden-Powell retired from the army and took 24 boys to the first experimental camp at Brownsea Island . 1908 Publication of ‘’ and ‘The ’. First official Scout Camp, Northumberland. 1909 First Scout Headquarters opened: 116 Victoria Street, London. 1910 Started . Sea Scout Branch formed. 1912 Baden-Powell and Olave Soamers met and married on October. 1914 Started Brownie Guides. 1916 Started of Wolf Cubs. Started of Ranger Guides. 1918 Started Rover Scout. 1919 Gilwell Park given to Association. 1920 First World Jamboree was held at Olympia in London. Baden-Powell acclaimed Chief Scout of the World. 1921 Baden-Powell received a baronety. 1926 Handicapped section started. 1929 Baden-Powell created Baden – Powell of Gilwell. 1933 The Fourth World Jamboree was held at Godollo in Hungary. 1937 World Jamboree, Vogelenzang. 1941 (8th Jan) Baden-Powell died in Nyeri, Kenya. Lord Somers became Chief Scout of the World. Air Scout Branch formed. 1944 The death of Lord Somers. 1946 Started Senior Scout. 1947 Unveiling of B –P memorial, Westminster Abbey. 6th World Jamboree, Moission, France. 1948 B –P Scout Guild of Old Scouts formed. 1949 The First International Camp for Handicapped Scouts. 1957 Jubilee year (50th annverisary). 1959 Lord Rowallan retired and Lord MacLean became the Chief Scout. 1966 Wolf Cubs renamed as Cub Scouts. 1967 Boy Scout Section renames Scout Section. Venture Scout Section launched.

Year Event 1909 to Scout activities started in Hong Kong, organized by British Merchants and Military 1911 Officials. 1913 The first Scout Group in Hong Kong was founded. 1915 “Boy Scouts Association, Hong Kong Branch” was established. 1920 Scout Movement in Hong Kong resumed after World War I. 1922 First Prince of Wales Competition. 1929 Chai Wan Campsite was opened. 1930’s Started Rover Scout. 1937 The 17th Kowllon (La Salle) Group was founded. 1946 “St George’s Day and Founder’s Day Parade” was held, it was the first major event after the suspension of Hong Kong Scout Movement during World War II. 1949 Scout Headquarter at Morse Hut was opened. 1951 Carlton Competition was established for the Scout Section, and Prince of Wales Banner was made the prize for Venture Scout Section competition. 1954 Scout Headquarter was moved to Morse Building on Cox’s Road. 1956 Started the Handicapped Scout Section. 1958 First Jamboree Camp at Kam Tsin Village was held. 1961 First international jubilee camp in Hong Kong was held at Kowloon Chai in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hong Kong Scouting. 1962 25th Anniversary of the 17th Kowloon Group. Kowloon City District was established. 1967 The “Handicapped Scout Section” was renamed the “Extension Scout Section”. The “Boy Scouts Association, Hong Kong Branch” was renamed “, Hong Kong Branch”. 1968 Gilwell Campsite at Kowloon Peak was opened. 1972 Tai Tam Campsite was opened. 1975 Tung Tsz Campsite was opened. 1977 Hong Kong joined as the 111th member of the World Scout Association, and was renamed the “Scout Association of Hong Kong”. 1985 Grasshopper Scout Section was established. 1986 75th anniversary of Hong Kong Scouting. 1987 50th anniversary of the 17th Kowloon Group. 1991 Scout Headquarter moved to the Hong Kong Scout Centre at Austin Road.
