After partition, the country was deficient in trained medical manpower. To fill the gap in a short period of time the Government of Pakistan decided to start Condensed Medical Courses and for that a series of Medical Schools were established in the country. Thus in 1952 Amin-u-Din Medical School was started in Balochistan. It worked for seven years and was closed as a matter of policy that a Medical College to be opened to train fully qualified Doctors in the country at the level of MBBS and beyond. Earlier on, the medical students from Balochistan had to seek admission in the other medical colleges of the country and were facing great difficulty. After Balochistan got the status of a separate Province in 1970 the people of Balochistan started demanding a Medical College of their own. In March 1971, it was agreed in principle that a Medical College will be opened in Balochistan at Quetta. In 1972, the Government of Pakistan acceding to the demand of the people of the Province and formally decided to set-up a Medical College “Bolan Medical College (BMC)” at Quetta and agreed to run it as a Federally Funded Project. Pending the construction of a new full-fledged Hospital and College Building, the clinical classes were started in Sandeman Provincial Hospital (SPH) Quetta and basic classes in the building of a para- Medical School acquired for the College. The BMC college is shifted to the main building of College and the Hospital to attached BMCH hospital building. Now the attached hospitals are SPH, BMCH, Fathima Jinnah hospital and Helper’s Eye Hospital. The laboratories of the basic Departments have been equipped with most modern equipment while the old building is used for Hostel purpose. Later on, BDS classes were started in 1985 and presently a fully functional Bolan Dental College of the BMC is working under administration of Principal BMC. Three Boys and three Girls hostels and residences of Teaching and Ministerial staff, in reasonable number, have been completed. At the moment there is accommodation for almost all the students including a hostel for foreign students. Forty-two batches of students numbering 6998 (approximately) have already qualified from BMC. 538 BDS Doctors have qualified from this institution and 30th batch is due to pass out. BMC faculty is also delivering postgraduate teaching and training of medical doctors of Balochistan. A branch of Pakistan Medical Research Council is functioning since 1979, where the Principal BMC is working as Honorary Director, for up-dating the knowledge of the Teachers. Plans are under way to introduce Computer literacy classes, open a medical education Department, establish a Resource Centre, a skills laboratory and upgrading the library to meet the new challenges of the time. The application form should be filled according to the requirement and laid down procedures in the Prospectus. Any commission/omission in the application form will be liable to be rejected. Study Design: Cross-sectional descriptive study Place and Duration of Study: Outpatient Departments of Tertiary Care Hospitals of Peshawar from 1st January to 31st December 2016. Patients and Methods: A total of 200 pregnant women (booked or unbooked) of age of 13-19 years, delivered at tertiary care hospital were included. All pregnant females of 13-19 years including primary or multiparous had any other medical illness except pregnancy associated problems were excluded. Results: 41% adolescent mothers were primigravida and 59% were multigravida of the same group. Adolescent pregnant females were 21% between 13-15 years, 28% between 16-17 years and 51% between 18-19 years of adolescent mothers. Among ethnic groups adolescent pregnancy in Pashtuns were 48.5%, Hindko were 10%, Punjabi were 10.5%, Muhajirs were 20.5% and others were 10.5%. Maternal complications in adolescent mothers were anaemia 72%, caesarean section 7.5%, pregnancy induced hypertension 8%, post-partum haemorrhages 6.5% and instrumental delivery 6%. Foetal complications includes low birth weight 54.5%,pre-mature births 13%,still birth 9%, birth trauma 8.5%, respiratory infections 15%. Conclusion: Adolescent pregnancies are quite prevalent in the District Peshawar.

In contrast to the traditional methods where there is more focus on accumulation of facts, Case based learning is guided inquiry based learning. In contrast to PBL which is an open inquiry CBL is more structured and focused. Methodology: We planned an intervention based on “Case based learning (CBL)” as instructional strategy rather than lectures for final year MBBS. Lectures were replaced gradually by case based learning in a ratio of 1/3rd and 2/3rd. Case scenarios were displayed in the study guides and notice boards. Questionnaire directed to the students and teachers were carried out to check the satisfaction rates.after ethical approval Selected interviews were carried out of students and faculty. A comparison between the test score results of the previous year (controls 2013) and this year was made (study group 2014). Results: A total of 130 students and 15 faculty members responded to the questionnaire. CBL was preferred by students (89%) and faculty (84%) across the school and learner levels. The students found the interactive method much more entertaining, more interactive which facilitated greater depth of learning, leading to a logical application of knowledge in problem solving. Teachers enjoyed the teacher-student learning partnership that the method offered and more application of clinical knowledge.

    PREFACE The National Economic Council in its meeting held on 30th May, 2016 approved Block Allocation of Rs. 12,000 million in Federal PSDP under KA&GB Division for Development Program of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) for the year 2016-17 raising the allocation by 9.3% over financial year 2015-16. The Development Program of AJ&K also includes foreign aid component of Rs. 500 million for Islamic Development Bank assisted Education Sector projects besides World Bank and ADB assisted Flood Damages Restoration Projects. The Development Program has been formulated with a view to translate Government of Pakistan’s Vision 2025 and goals and objectives set for SDG’s into reality. Transport & Communication Sector is the major recipient of allocation during 2016- 17 for up-gradation and modernization of communication infrastructure for better regional connectivity. The second priority has been assigned to Education Sector followed by Power, PP&H, LG&RD, Development Authorities, Foreign Aided projects and Health Sectors. The overall portfolio comprises 489 ongoing and 87 new projects while 125 projects have been planned for completion during 2016-17. The Program has been realigned by enhancing the allocations for productive sectors to realize economic growth through well coordinated strategies ensuring comprehensive multi sectoral development programs by involving local communities to enhance the revenue base of the state to increase income and employment. The efforts have also been made to ensure completion of ongoing projects to combat time and cost overruns and timely provision of services to the targeted populace. Almost 86 % funds are allocated to on-going portfolio to ensure completion of targeted projects.
