Jim Sterk Director of Athletics Washington State University Pullman, WA 99164-1602

Dear Jim,

Please accept my resignation effective the end of the 2005-06 basketball season. It has been my pleasure to serve Washington State University these past three years. Even though we did not win many games, I consider the experience here as one of my best ever during the last 40 years.

I wish to thank our administration, my colleagues in athletics, and the won- derful Cougar fans across the state of Washington. I understand the often- mentioned expression “Once a Coug, always a Coug!” I remain a Cougar! The emotional support has been unmatched.

The future of Cougar Men’s Basketball is in the hands of a gifted first year head coach and his staff. More importantly, it is really owned by a group of young men who must seize that ownership and continue to develop into the team and program spoken about often as the big picture unfolds.

Most Sincerely,

Dick Bennett

DEAN HARE/DAILY EVERGREEN Tony Bennett, left, was announced as the next WSU men’s basketball head coach on Tuesday. He will replace his father, Dick, right, after this season concludes.
