Gravel exemplifies his point of view by saying “We got to the moon in ten years; we built the atomic bomb in four years. You don’t think we can get out of gasoline if this country were mo- tivated in five years?” The Senator’s plan for freeing the country from gasoline depen- dence would depend on proper leadership. A leadership focused on solving not only the oil cri- ses, but also the constant increase in carbon monoxide emissions. According to Gravel, automo- biles that can handle liquid hy- drogen are the solution for ending the gasoline dependence. His plan involves the construc- tion of five million wind powered energy generators. In areas where wind is not powerful enough to provide sufficient energy, Gravel intends to place solar energy pan- els. With this technology, Gravel says that “we can re-electrify the entire nation. That means no nuclear plants, no diesel plants, no coal plants, they’re all shut down.” Health Care remains one of the nation’s biggest problems. Plans to find a solution for this problem are always the leading platform in the campaigns of presidential can- didates. Gravel’s solution for this issue consists of having six health care packages for the American citizens to choose from. Five of the packages would be selected from the private sector and the fifth would be the governmental choice. The health care pack- age providers would have direct competition, “They compete not on the services, because that’s already defined. They compete in the administrative cost” “The American people know factually, empirically, and intui- tively that our tax system is cor- rupt.” Gravel’s tax plan would have neutral revenue and because September 24, 2007 The Observer 8 The Observer Entertainment october 22, 2007

What is the difference between black and white, American and Hispanic? The difference is…nothing. Racism unfortunately still is a very real thing in this country. No matter how many laws or acts are passed to promote equality, there has never been a true resolution to this issue. The constitution of the United States says that “All men are created equal” and in this country the constitution is the highest form of law there is. However all the laws that are passed don’t seem to actually change the way people view one another. Prejudice is still a matter of personal opinion that has been passed down from generation to generation as normal accepted behavior. There are the average Joes out there who live in the southern past, who still believe that African-Americans are inferior and Hispanics should have never come to this country of opportunity. Discrimination and racism are out dated ideas that were made up when man began his exploration of the world and thought that his civilization was superior to another. These ideas that skin color, nationality or the accent you speak with somehow make you inferior to someone else needs to be extricated from our minds. Everyone is equal in thoughts and actions and should be held responsible in the same way. In today’s world we are all born in similar conditions and should be treated at an equal level without giving importance to how we look or where we are from. There have been too many incidents in late history that at heart are racial issues. The one that we have heard the most of lately is the Jena six situation. In the little town of Jena, Lousiana racial issues sparked a controversy that has been talked about all around the world and ended with six kids in jail. Those who believe that racism is dead and buried with the freeing of the slaves obviously haven’t looked around the world lately, because it is built into every aspect of our society. For these and many other valid reasons that time and space impede us to use, racism as the state of perception that we know, should be left behind and forgotten, that would guarantee a better place for us and the ones who follow to live in.
