Overtime wins and losses appear in both the W and L columns, as well as the OTW and OTL columns in a team’s conference record. Shootouts will only occur if a conference game remains tied after the lone overtime, which is now 3-on-3, with the shootout winner earning two points and the loser getting one point, the same as an overtime win and loss.

The first *No. 4/5 St. Cloud State at Western Michigan, 7:05 p.m. ET series has No. 4/5 St. Cloud State heading to Western Michigan Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16 Saturday. Those two split a pair of one-goal games in the Pod, with SCSU *No. 4/5 St. Cloud State at Western Michigan, 7:30 p.m. ET winning, 4-3, in the teams’ season opener, while WMU won, 2-1, a week TV: CBS Sports Network later.

ROAD RULES: Road teams went 5-0-1 last weekend in the NCHC, in- 2021 cluding one overtime win, with North Dakota earning all six points and Bobby Brink, F, Denver (USA) St. Cloud State and Western Michigan each grabbing five of six points Tyler Kleven, D, UND (USA) away from home. NHL ALUMNI: With the 2021 NHL season underway, a total of 41 NCHC alumni made opening-day rosters, including 14 on NHL ‘taxi squads.’ In addition, 22 other alumni of NCHC teams prior to the NCHC made NHL rosters, for a total of 63 alumni from NCHC teams on opening-day rosters. North Dakota led the way with 19 alumni total, including 11 who played in the NCHC. Two NCHC alums have already made NHL debuts this season, with former Denver defenseman Ian Mitchell starting for the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 13, and former North Dakota forward Cole Smith debuting with the Nashville Predators on Jan. 14.

FRESHMAN PHENOMS: Three NCHC freshmen rank in the top five nationally in goal-scoring among rookies. Denver forward Carter Savoie and North Dakota forward Riese Gaber each have eight goals on the season, tying for second among NCAA freshmen. St. Cloud State forward Veeti Miettinen is fifth with his seven goals. Miettinen also has seven assists, with his 14 points leading NCHC rookies and ranking fifth in the NCAA. Savoie’s 13 points (8g, 5a) are sixth. Five of Savoie’s goals and eight of his points have come on the power play, with the eight power play points leading all rookies nationally. Miettinen had a six-game point streak snapped last Saturday.

GOLDEN BOYS: Three NCHC players helped the U.S. National Junior Team win the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, as Denver sophomore forward Bobby Brink and North Dakota freshman defensemen Tyler Kleven and Jake Sanderson returned from Edmonton, Alberta with gold medals after Team USA defeated host Canada, 2-0, in the final on Jan. 5. Brink (2g/4a) and Sanderson (2a) played in all seven games, while Kleven (1a) played in two games. The trio gives the NCHC eight World Junior Championship gold medalists, all coming in the last five years.(full NCHC player stats on page 8)

COLORADO COLLEGE: The Tigers were swept at home last Sunday and CC to stretch his point streak to 11 games (3g, 11a), before having it Monday by North Dakota, their first home losses of the season, after snapped in Monday’s 2-1 victory.
