1 FEDERATION UNIVERSITY ROAD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

EXPERIENCE AT THE FEDERATION UNIVERSITY ROAD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Federation University Road National Championships takes ’s best cyclists to Ballarat, Buninyong and surrounding areas in a battle for the coveted green and gold National Champions jersey.

Featuring an exciting five-day program with criterium, road race and time trial events, cyclists will see, experience and participate in the ultimate week of Aussie Cycling.

2 FEDERATION UNIVERSITY VICE CHANCELLOR WELCOME

It is my great pleasure to welcome spectators, families and elite cyclists to come together once again for the Federation University Australia Road National Championships. A prime focus is on making this event a COVID-safe event as we move from two days of time trials at Mount Helen Campus to Friday’s Criterium Champs and into a full weekend of road racing.

We are delighted this year to have a Live Site set up on campus so that spectators can keep up with all of the weekend’s action on the big screen in a comfortable, safe environment.

And Federation University is proud to keep the wheels of high-performance cycling turning long after this year’s competitors have crossed the finish line, by agreeing to extend its cycling partnership with AusCycling by a further three years.

This deepening collaboration will see Federation University host training camps for elite cyclists, run athlete testing and talent identification, and work with AusCycling to explore potential education programs with a focus on coaching.

Our students will benefit from work placement and internship opportunities with AusCycling across many discipline areas. Research opportunities at both elite and recreational levels of the sport will also develop. Professor Duncan Bentley These partnership initiatives will be supported by our state-of-the-art health and sports Vice-Chancellor and President precinct, which opened in March 2020, as well as our world-class reputation for sport Federation University science programs.

Federation’s Sport Science discipline last year jumped into the top 100 of the global ranking of sport science schools and departments, as assessed by the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

That is a ringing endorsement of the high-quality sports experiences we offer, from exercise and sport science through to clinical exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, and sport management – and this year, the spotlight of international sport management will shine on an exciting new bachelor’s degree presented in partnership with the World Academy of Sport.

After a year of frustrations and restrictions it will be a joy to see Ballarat come alive to the great cycling spectacle the Federation University Road National Championships have become.

Good luck to all the 2021 competitors!

3 AUSCYCLING MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Over five days, Australia’s best under 19, under 23, elite and para-cyclists will battle for the coveted green and gold national champions jerseys in the criterium, road race, time trial and Gran Fondo.

Over the last thirteen years, the Championships has produced countless great memories, with many of Australian cycling’s World Tour stars celebrating glory on the roads of Ballarat.
