I write in response to your request for information in relation to Memory Clinics within NHS Lothian.

Question: 1. Could you please provide the names and addresses of memory services/clinics that operate within the Organisation? 2. What diagnostic services does each clinic provide?

Answer: Memory services, NHS Lothian Area Service Further details City of Edinburgh Memory Open Monday to Friday. Primarily for Edinburgh Assessment and Treatment patients residing in the City of Edinburgh area Clinic, who can attend clinic with a Carer. Marchhall House, 3 Marchhall Crescent, Clinic sessions are held by nursing and Edinburgh. 0131 662 0844 medical staff for assessment and treatment of Dementia including Post Diagnostic Support. Health and Social Care Offers assessment, diagnosis and follow up Dementia Team, to those people diagnosed with dementia in Bonnyrigg Health Centre, Midlothian. Single point of contact for health 109-111 High Street, and social care. Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, EH19 2ET 0131 537 9850 Memory Treatment follow up clinic is run twice weekly. West Memory A nurse led service providing early Lothian Assessment and Treatment assessment for diagnosis and follow up Service, Block 3/8 support to patients diagnosed with dementia. Staff Residencies, Initial assessments are carried out in the St John’s Hospital, patient’s home by a senior staff nurses from Howden Road West, Older People’s Community Mental Health Livingston, West Lothian, Services.

Memory services, NHS Lothian Area Service Further details EH54 6PP 01506 523 793 East Older People’s Community Offers comprehensive needs assessment Lothian Mental Health Team, and review for people with dementia including Hopetoun Unit, post diagnostic support. Clinics are held in Herdmanflat Hospital the Hopetoun Unit and in Haddington, EH14 3B4 Primary Care Centre. 0131 536 8520

Question: 5. Could you please provide information about the role, responsibility, and level of seniority of the Health Care professional in charge of the Memory Service/Clinic? Please provide information for each service/clinic.

Answer: Please contact the Health and Social Care Partnerships.

Question: 6. Does the service/clinic provide Amyloid-PET imaging (API) and Cerebrospinal Fluid Testing (CSF)? If Yes, how many tests did the clinics undertake in the following financial years: Please provide information for each service/clinic.

Answer: Yes, however we cannot separate figure out form Pet Scans. This information is not held in a centrally extractable format. Under the Freedom of Information Act NHS Lothian is not required to create new records to enable it to respond to your enquiry. This information is not collated or held in aggregate form and it would be necessary to review all case files relating to patients over the period you have requested to assemble the information you seek. Even if NHS Lothian did this – and there would be significant cost implications in doing so – it would be unable to respond in full to your request. The information requested is therefore exempt under section 12.1 – Cost.

Question: 7. If the clinics do perform CSF testing, are the samples sent to a laboratory outside the clinic? If Yes, could you provide the name and location?

Answer: Internally.

Question: 8. What were the average waiting times for GP referrals to memory clinics in the following financial years?

Answer: Waiting times are not held in a centrally extractable format. Under the Freedom of Information Act NHS Lothian is not required to create new records to enable it to respond to your enquiry. This information is not collated or held in aggregate form and it would be necessary to review all case files relating to patients over the period you have requested to assemble the information you seek. Even if NHS Lothian did this – and there would be significant cost implications in doing so – it would be unable to respond in full to your request. The information requested is therefore exempt under section 12.1 – Cost.

If you remain dissatisfied with the Commissioner’s response you then have the option to appeal to the Court of Session on a point of law.
