MAGGIE MALINA As Senior Vice President, Scripted Production & Programming, Maggie Malina leads the network’s scripted division within its original programming department. In her role based in New York, Malina oversees all scripted development and production for VH1. Over the past year in this post, Malina launched the critically acclaimed original movie The Breaks starring Mack Wilds, Afton Williamson, Wood Harris and Evan Handler, which was seen by over 9 million people during its premiere airings in January 2016. The Breaks was picked up to series and production begins shooting this summer. She also oversaw the development of the dramatic series Daytime Divas starring Vanessa Williams, which was picked up straight to series in February 2016 with Vanessa Williams as the star. Her current series Hit The Floor, which she previously developed and executive produced, was the #1 cable scripted series for women 18-49 in its timeslot in its third season. Previously, Malina most recently served as an executive producer and programming consultant on long-form programming for VH1 and MTV. Malina was an executive producer of VH1’s critically acclaimed current scripted hour-long drama “Hindsight,” which The New York Times called “a clever, affecting and sly new show." She also developed and produced the breakthrough hit series “Single Ladies.” Malina also served as an executive producer of high profile VH1 Original Films including “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story,” the #1 cable original movie of 2013 among Adults and Women 18-49 and VH1’s highest rated original movie ever, and last fall’s “Drumline: A New Beat,” which was seen by 3.3 million total viewers on its premiere night, ranked as the #1 social show on all of TV that evening and was nominated for three NAACP Image Awards. Malina also produced “Downloaded,” the highly acclaimed feature documentary under the VH1 Rock Docs banner about Napster and the global impact of digital distribution. For MTV, Malina conceived, developed and produced the network’s first original movie trilogy, the horror films “My Super Psycho Sweet 16” Parts 1, 2, and 3. Prior to her producer and executive consultant role at Viacom Media Networks, Malina was Senior Vice President, VH1 Films and Scripted Series. Her projects during that time included the film “Totally Awesome,” an irreverent homage to 1980’s movies, written and directed by “Chappelle’s Show” co-creator Neal Brennan; the critically acclaimed, single-camera comedy “So Notorious,” starring Tori Spelling and Zachary Quinto; and the innovative, multi-platform sketch comedy “Acceptable TV,” executive produced by Jack Black and Dan Harmon. Malina’s history with Viacom began in 1998, when she was tapped to start a television movie division for MTV. As Senior Vice President, MTV Original Movies, Malina developed and produced a slate of films including “2Gether,” a send-up of boy bands that led to a television series and two hit records and “Hip Hopera: Carmen” which featured the acting debut of Beyonce Knowles. Before joining MTV, Malina served as Vice President at producer Gale Anne Hurd’s Pacific Western Productions. Malina earned a B.A. from Brown University. .
