“Turn, turn, turn” is originally written by songwriter legend Pete Seeger, but it was The Byrds that made the song into a number one hit in 1965. “Turn, turn, turn is the #1 hit with the oldest lyrics, as it is taken from the Book of Ecclesiastes. It is a philosophic lyric, which reflects that there is a time and place for everything; ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.’ The Byrds’ version of the song is up- tempo and has a quite happy sound. We have made a darker and more melancholic version, and the tempo is taken down significantly,” Kari says.

It was Olavsfestdagene, a big festival in Kari’s hometown Trondheim, that wanted Kari to make her own version of the song to the opening ceremony of the festival 28th of July. “Olavsfestdagene wanted me to do a version of the song. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘time’, and Turn, turn, turn fits perfectly is that respect. When the festival contacted me, we were in the middle of the recordings of the upcoming album. Making this cover version of Turn, turn, turn became a truly creative process inspired by the sound of the album we were working with. I was never in doubt that the song also had to be a part of the album.

It’s not exactly happy, up-tempo songs I normally write, but I would say it’s more melancholic than dark”, Kari explains with a smile.
