Early endorsements from unions include the following organizations: New York State AFL-CIO; Western New York Area Labor Federation (ALF); Western New York Communication Workers of America Council (CWA); Buffalo Building Trades; 1199SEIU; Laborers International Union Local #210; AFSCME Council #66; International Union of Operating Engineers Local #17; State Conference of Operating Engineers; International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District 4; and International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #14. Jon Rivera will fight back against anti-union conservative forces and stand shoulder to shoulder with New York's labor unions to protect our progress. These significant endorsements make clear that union members across Western New York support Rivera’s progressive platform and believe he will be the best choice to represent the interests of working people in the State Assembly in Albany. Coordinated Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts among these unions are already underway to ensure Jon’s message reaches all voters who will be casting ballots, whether by mail, during early voting, or on Primary Day. Jon Rivera said, “Unions built the middle class and have given our society rights and freedoms often taken for granted. We should always support good paying union jobs that you can raise a family on. Across America, unions are under attack by activist right-wing courts and conservative elected officials. I will defend our hard-working union brothers and sisters, and the rights they have fought so hard for. By addressing economic inequality in Western New York, I will work every day to ensure a fairer system that puts working families first. Union members are active, engaged, empowered members of the workforce every corner of the 149th district. Mario Cilento of the New York State AFL-CIO said, “We will coordinate and activate a powerful grassroots campaign to educate our members on labor’s supported candidates in these races and ensure our members know all of their options on how to safely exercise their right to vote.” Dick Lipsitz of WNY AFL-CIO said, “We are pleased to support Jonathan Rivera for Assembly in the 149th district of New York. In a time of unprecedented challenges facing healthcare workers, it’s imperative that we have a voice in Albany that has the knowledge and will to get things done!” Sam Capitano of the Laborers International Union Local 210 said, “As President of Laborers Local 210, involved in many of the largest public works projects in Erie County, we wholeheartedly endorse and support the candidacy of Jon Rivera for the 149th Assembly seat. Jon’s government experience has given him familiarity of the industry the men and women of Local 210 make their living in. I trust Jon to be an asset to the construction industry as a whole. Considering he comes from a family of public servants and with his calm demeanor, I know he will serve our community well.” Rich Canazzi of AFSCME Local 1095, AFSCME Council 66 said, “Jon Rivera and I have worked together in Erie County government over the last five years. In his management role, we've worked side by side to ensure that workers receive their fair share. As a voice of working families, Jon has demonstrated excellent leadership and compassion for county residents. He has the composure to resolve issues peacefully and adequately.
